At Byington vineyards we work with estate fruit from soil to bottle. It is a unique opportunity to get involved in every aspect of winemaking.

With the ethos that wine is made in the vineyard no job is too small or too big for our team. You can find us outside in our vineyards through the growing season, working diligently in the cellar during harvest and deep below our vineyards in the subterranean cave through the heart of winter.

This job is about connecting with the seasons and cycles of the year to understand the growing conditions of the vintage and to express our hard work and dedication through small lot high end wine production.

We practice organic viticulture with an eye towards moving to biodynamic methods and use minimal intervention winemaking techniques in the cellar.

Our ideal candidate will bring both experience and a willingness to learn to our team. A willingness to get involved in all aspects of the winery, from the seemingly menial to the high responsibility tasks.

Of utmost importance is self motivation, an ability to hold yourself and your work to a high standard and motivate those around you to work at a similar level.

The candidate must be highly organized and capable of a high level of abstract thought in order to see the work progression, to maximize efficiency of tasks.

Key responsibilities for this position are :

Assist in receiving and processing fruit, sorting, pressing, etc.

Perform punch downs, pump-overs

Monitor fermentation Brix and temperature as needed

Racking juice, filling, topping, and stirring barrels

Removing pomace from tanks & presses

Safe operation of a forklift

Accurate record keeping

General cleaning and sanitization of winery and winery equipment

Working the bottling line

Equipment upkeep and Maintenance

Tractor driving

Vineyard canopy management

Harvest sampling

Gopher trapping

Requirements :

US citizen or work visa required

Ability to stand, perform repetitive motions and lift 50lbs

Previous winery or harvest experience beneficial

Serious passion for wine and winemaking

A strong attention to detail, positive attitude, willingness to work hard and get dirty, and ability to work well with others is essential

Ability to work long hours / weekends and in various conditions

Valid Driver’s License required

Compensation Package :

$20.00 per hour
