Summary :
The Accountant Senior is responsible for preparing generalledger month-end journal entries relevant to their assignedfunctional accounting team in accordance with Generally AcceptedAccounting Principles.

This job requires astrong understanding of United States Generally Accepted AccountingPrinciples (US GAAP). The Senior accountant should be able todemonstrate an understanding of the purpose of the journal entriesthey are recording to the general ledger, evaluate theappropriateness of the entry (including the GL accounts used andthe financial statement line item classification), and explain theimpact to the financial statements.
They are responsible forensuring appropriate and relevant supporting documentation isattached to the journal entry. The Senior Accountant is responsiblefor evaluating the source of the information for their journalentries and asking appropriate follow-up questions to ensuredocumentation is appropriate.
In some cases, appropriate supportwill include developing estimates of the current month activitybased on financial analysis of historical data.
The SeniorAccountant is expected to develop an understanding of healthcarespecific accounting issues relevant to the assigned functionalaccounting area.
Previous healthcare experience is preferred butnot required. The Senior Accountant is responsible for analyzingand providing variance explanations (from budget and trend) relatedto assigned areas to the accounting leads and managers formonth-end review.
The Senior Accountant isresponsible for completion of monthly balance sheet accountreconciliations related to the assigned functional accounting area.
The Senior Accountant is responsible for assisting other teamsacross the System (both at the corporate office and at ourfacilities) with information requests related to the assignedfunctional area, as needed.
The Senior Accountant is expected towork closely with other teams to resolve issues timely and to thesatisfaction of all parties.
The Senior Accountant is responsiblefor other projects, as assigned, which may include but are notlimited to : research of GL transactions to understand the impact tothe GL, process improvement projects, and assistance for theyear-end external audit.
The job requires excellent written andverbal communication skills.
Responsibilities :
- Meets expectations of theapplicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies : Leader of Self, Leader ofOthers, or Leader of Leaders.
- Preparemonth-end journal entries in accordance with US GAAP, with completeand accurate supporting documentation.
- Perform variance analysis on assigned accounts to both budget andtrend and provide explanations to their Lead and Manager formonth-end review of financial statements.
- Prepare month-end balance sheet reconciliations.
- Assist other teams with information requestsas needed.

Experience
5 years of experience required.
Healthcare accounting experiencepreferred.
Licenses, Registrations, orCertifications
