The Mental Health Association is seeking a Program Director for our Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness program, operating out of Essex County.

The Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness (PATH) program provides outreach, intensive case management, and housing that will enable adults, ages 18 and over, who are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness, to engage in community-based services.

Qualified applicants for the position of Program Director will have, at minimum :

  • A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in social work, rehabilitation counseling, or other related behavioral healthcare or counseling program.
  • A current LSW, LAC, LPC or LCSW.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of social work, psychology, counseling or a related field with two years of supervisory experience.
  • A valid New Jersey driver’s license in good standing.

Responsibilities :

  • Clinical assessment through the completion of a comprehensive intake assessment which includes a mental status exam, suicide risk assessment, risk of hospitalization assessment and an individual’s psychosocial history.
  • Clinical consultation through ongoing case discussion and evaluation focusing on consumer-centered advocacy, clinical social work data, clinical goals, and treatment plans.
  • Perform psychotherapeutic intervention and crisis intervention with individuals as needed.
  • Advance the mission and philosophy of the agency through adhering to all policies and procedures set forth by MHA.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the PATH program.
  • Provide supervision to all PATH staff and on-call support as needed.
  • Plan, organize and manage staff development and training while also completing program development and implementation.
  • Provide Case Consultations and Case Management as needed.
  • Record review to ensure compliance with evidence-based practices, cultural competence, Medicaid regulations and HMIS compliance.
  • Provide inter-Agency coordination; form relationships with other key agencies and professionals through the county and develop affiliation agreements to benefit mutual clientele, as may be indicated.
  • Prepare monthly management reports to the Chief Operating Officer that address data.
  • Participate in and monitor quality assurance consistent with the program goals and objectives and critical corrective measures identified.
  • Conduct annual consumer satisfaction surveys to secure feedback from consumers.
  • Represent MHA at community meetings or events, as may be requested by the Chief Executive Officer including but not limited to MHA Board Meetings.
  • Attend and participate in monthly QA meetings, CEAS / CAS, SRC, PAC and Coordinated Entry meetings.
  • Assure license and accreditation obligations for CN&L and CARF.
  • Monitor compliance of cultural competence, recovery-oriented services, and evidence-based practices.
  • Meet all expected productivity levels, in regards to the direct service provision in the program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Operating Officer.

Skills Needed :

  • Ability to assess clinical status as well as interpret clinical charts when available.
  • Ability to identify clinical crises that may require emergency intervention.
  • Ability to provide leadership and management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and also build professional relationships.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices and ability to implement.
  • Creativity in engaging individuals into services.
