The Helen Keller School (HKS) Principal is expected to provide leadership for the academic, vocational, and extended day programs of the Helen Keller School.

The HKS Principal has the responsibility for; recruiting and development of internal staff for all of the positions related to the school, overseeing and ensuring that effective evaluations are performed for all HKS staff, the development and maintenance of the school’s budget in partnership with the Vice President, President, and Chief Financial Officer.

The HKS Principal is also responsible for staying current regarding educational and residential trends, the developments in teaching, curriculum, testing, technology, and discipline as it relates to education of students with multiple needs and who have sensory impairment(s).

You will play a vital role in the lives of our students and be a part of the miracles that happen every day at Helen Keller School and AIDB.

As the leader of HKS, you will serve as a member of the institute’s leadership team and gain hands-on leadership experience.

You will report to the Vice President of Instructional Programs. Your leadership style should always be aligned with our mission, purpose and core values as well as possess a genuine love and concern for the success of the teachers and students.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Educational Administration, Special Education, or related field from an accrediting college / university.
  • Must hold a valid teacher’s certification in Education.
  • Minimum five (5) years of teaching experience in a Special or Collaborative Education setting.
  • Minimum three (3) years of successful experience in educational administration.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Be able to obtain certification in Special Education or Collaborative Education within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment.
  • Must be on call days, nights, and weekends for our day staff and night residential staff.
  • Must work closely with the HKS staff and Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Accreditation to obtain satisfactory accreditation through multiple avenues.
  • Must work closely with HKS staff and AIDB’s Special Education Coordinator to ensure all students' Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) are in compliance and followed to fidelity.
  • A sign language proficiency level of SURVIVAL PLUS according to the AIDB evaluation system must be obtained within the first twelve (12) months of employment.
  • A sign language proficiency INTERMEDIATE must be obtained within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment.
  • Must possess knowledge of federal and state statutes and laws concerning educational administration and programming, particularly as they affect students with multiple needs and comply accordingly.
  • Must be able to develop and maintain rapport and a shared vision of the future with staff members, school personnel, parents, students, alumni, and administration.
  • Must demonstrate excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Must ensure that all staff evaluations are completed and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to prove knowledge of independent living skill techniques and knowledge of contemporary issues, best practices and trends in curricula for students who have multiple needs and sensory impairments.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in writing and in public venues.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB .

SALARY : $92,892 - $137,197 Scale A1 Rank 02

Annual salary based on hours scheduled to work each academic school year.

260 Days) Direct deposit is required.
