Job Description Summary
A temporary employee position is one created and intended to exist for less than one thousand four hundred fifty (1,450) hours in a calendar year.
The Municipal Court Part-Time Officer will serve as a court marshal and / or deputy court marshal of the municipal court and enforce its orders, judgments and decrees as outlined in City of Columbia Ordinance 21-21 and Article XV-the Municipal Court Section 117-Marshal.
The Municipal Court Part-Time Officer will :
- Ensures the security of the Municipal Court building, property and grounds.
- Screens visitors and packages entering the Court to help assure the safety of the occupants and visitors.
- Implements security protocols, procedures and guidelines approved by the Court and police department.
- Serves as bailiff during Court proceedings; provides security for the courtroom; must be able to remove a disruptive individual from the courtroom swiftly and safely.
- Serves warrants for arrest and transportation pursuant to the Court’s orders.
- Assists in the planning and coordination of the Court’s emergency preparedness.
- Participates in ongoing training and maintains required certification and licensure.
- Maintains and develops partnerships and relationships with citizens and community organizations.
- Performs administrative duties; completes and maintains accurate records and documentation.
- Participates in meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications :
- Missouri POST Certification (Class A Peace Officer License)
- Have a minimum education of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Not have any serious criminal record entries
- Maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license and safe driving record
- Maintain CPR certification
- Have an excellent work history and attendance record
Possess knowledge of :
- Relevant federal, state, and local laws and ordinances.
- Departmental policies and procedures.
- Law enforcement vehicles, equipment, tools, and technology.
Skill in :
- Communicating verbally and in writing to meet the needs of the audience.
- Applying active listening and asking questions for understanding.
- Collecting, organizing, and analyzing complex and / or technical data.
- Preparing and maintaining detailed and accurate reports.
Ability to :
- Process and handle confidential information with discretion.
- Handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
- Recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
- Operate safety and effectively police vehicles, approved weapons, and equipment.
- Render credible testimony.
