Duties
- Biological Science Technicians (Wildlife) primary duties will be to assist with inventory and monitoring of marbled murrelets, spotted owls, and other sensitive vertebrate and invertebrate species of western Oregon.
- Perform any or all of the following or similar duties : research, compile and tabulate wildlife inventory data i.e., population counts, reproductive performance, food habits, prey densities.
- Conduct field surveys on proposed actions (timber sales, road construction proposals, land exchanges, etc.) for federally listed and sensitive wildlife species and their habitats.
- They may conduct monitoring of known sites to ascertain site occupation and reproductive success; conduct habitat / vegetation monitoring;
conduct inventories for specific species in potential habitat areas.
- They may deploy and maintain autonomous recording devices (ARU) and trail cameras and conduct data review using specialized software.
- Document locations using maps and GIS / GPS technology, enter data into GIS and other databases and study files.
- interpret aerial photos, landsat imagery and topographic maps to determine land use and vegetation distribution and to plot nest / herd breeding sites.
- Organizes field data, ensuring quality control of data or collected samples. Provides assessment and classification of data, which may include inspection of contract survey efforts and treatments.
- Assists in the preparation of reports, plans, and guidelines related to resource management projects.
