The Elementary School ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Teacher is responsible for providing specialized instruction in English language development to elementary school students whose primary language is not English.
The goal is to help students acquire language proficiency and academic skills necessary to succeed in an English-speaking learning environment. Key Responsibilities :
Instructional Planning and Delivery : Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles and language proficiency levels. Conduct formal and informal assessments to monitor and guide student progress.
Use technology to enhance the instructional process.
Student Support and Development : Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
Provide individual and small group instruction designed to meet individual needs of students. Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement instructional strategies for English language learners.
Monitor and assess students’ progress regularly, providing feedback to students and parents.
Professional Development and Collaboration : Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment.
Work cooperatively with other teachers, administrators, and staff to support the district's educational goals. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Compliance and Record Keeping : Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
Ensure compliance with all state and federal guidelines pertaining to English language learners (ELLs). Prepare and submit required reports in a timely manner.
Qualifications :
- Education : Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Certification : Valid Georgia teaching certificate in ESOL or endorsement in ESOL. Additional certification in Elementary Education preferred.
- Experience : Previous experience teaching ESOL students at the elementary level preferred. Demonstrated success in the implementation of instructional strategies that improve English language proficiency and academic achievement.
- Skills and Abilities : Strong understanding of language acquisition theories and instructional strategies for ELLs. Ability to differentiate instruction based on student needs.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in using educational technology and software applications.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Work Environment :
The work environment is a typical classroom setting. The ESOL teacher must be able to engage with young learners and manage a dynamic classroom environment. Physical Demands :
The physical demands of this job include standing, walking, sitting, and occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds. The teacher must be able to navigate around the classroom and school premises.
