KGOU Membership Director (Advancement Associate)

KGOU is seeking a motivated, mission-driven, process-oriented Membership Director to assist the public radio station’s efforts in a variety of fundraising operations including soliciting direct mail and online donations, on-air fundraising drives, and individual donor and listener communications.

They will assist in setting priorities for the membership program and will work closely with internal and external colleagues and partners to communicate the station’s mission and broadcast and online services, as well as to raise funds to support that mission.

Who We Are

KGOU is a non-commercial NPR member station licensed to the University of Oklahoma and operated by the University of Oklahoma Outreach with studios and offices located in Norman, Oklahoma.

KGOU has received five regional Edward R. Murrow Awards and won the Oklahoma Associated Press Broadcasters award for Outstanding Radio News Operation ten times.

KGOU provides journalism and entertainment programs that empower the community to better understand and participate in our diverse and complex world.

We serve Oklahomans who seek news and information out of curiosity and concern about challenges facing our community, nation, and world.

With transmission facilities in nine Oklahoma locations, KGOU’s broadcast signals reach more than million people across 36 counties, including the Oklahoma City metro area.

We also deliver content on our news-forward website (), social media, podcasts, mobile apps and smart speakers.

Duties

  • Solicits and secures private gifts with an emphasis on annual gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations.
  • Assists in setting fund-raising priorities and in establishing specific and long-range fundraising goals.
  • Implements, maintains, and assesses broad-based cultivation and stewardship efforts, which may include publications, mailings, special events, and campus tours.
  • Provides interpretation regarding policies and procedures associated with fundraising activities.
  • Designs and prepares special reports.
  • Participates in projects, programs, and related development activities as required.
  • Maintains security and confidentiality of prospect and donor information.
  • Documents donor interactions and solicitations and helps to keep donor information updated.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for handling, process control, security, privacy, and accuracy of donor records, communications, promotions, data, and financial activity.
  • Maintain ethical standards for fundraising, including donor privacy.
  • Create fundraising appeals for direct mail, email, broadcast, and online donations with the goal of increasing levels of giving and growth of the donor roster.
  • Assist with donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and events, and provide exceptional customer service to all donors.
  • Solicit and secure private gifts from individuals, foundations, and businesses.
  • Assist in producing at least three annual on-air fundraising campaigns.
  • Assist in setting fundraising priorities and establishing specific fundraising strategies and goals.
  • Research, write, edit, and design text and graphics for email newsletters, donor correspondence, reports, presentations, and publications that communicate with our audience and donors and promote the station’s service and brand.
  • Participate in development, management, and implementation of projects, programs and related development activities and represent KGOU at business, donor, and community events.
  • Reports to Development Director.

Qualifications and Skills for Success

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field.
  • Minimum of eighteen (18) months in fundraising, sales, public relations, marketing, or related experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with attention to detail, and to meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of constituents, engage in repetitive motions, and work effectively under frequent deadline pressure and busy periods.
  • High degree of critical thinking skill and self-motivated to achieve results.
  • Ability to learn new skills, software, and technologies.
  • Understanding of and enthusiasm for KGOU’s public service mission.
  • May be required to travel.

Department Preferences

  • Writing or other content creation for print, broadcast, or online publication or blog.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, or Audition).
  • Experience using Customer Relationship Management (donor database) software (Allegiance, Agilon, or comparable).
  • Experience using email marketing software (Constant Contact).
  • Experience using website content management software (Grove, Brightspot, WordPress, or comparable).
  • Experience using Google Analytics.
  • Experience using Google Ad Manager (DFP).
  • Experience using Triton Ad Platform (TAP).

This is a full-time position with regular hours Monday through Friday from 8 : 00 to 5 : 00 Occasional work after hours or on weekends should be expected.

Salary is commensurate with experience, with a package of University of Oklahoma benefits including health insurance, 401k, retirement, and generous paid time off.
