What You'll Do
- Front Desk Operations : Greet and register patients, notifying medical staff of their arrival. Verify current demographic and insurance information, photocopy or scan and input data into practice management, EMR, and hospital systems.
- Patient Interaction : Collect and review all registration and required patient forms for accuracy and completeness. Collect and post patient co-pays.
Handle patient complaints, providing effective and immediate responses and referring to the Practice Manager as appropriate.
- Telephone Management : Receive incoming telephone calls, take messages including appropriate patient / caller information, and assist with the timely scheduling of patient appointments.
- Scheduling and Reminders : Schedule patient appointments and make reminder calls. Obtain referrals from referring physicians and assist with office charge entry as needed.
- Provider Schedule Management : Maintain and coordinate provider schedules, optimizing the effective scheduling of appointments.
- Medical Records and Administrative Support : Assist with medical record tasks, maintain physician calendars, schedule surgeries and related tests or procedures with hospital departments, and send necessary paperwork.
Notify referring physicians of planned surgeries and pre-certify procedures with third-party payors as needed.
System Development : Assist in developing and implementing systems to support effective and accurate patient registration.
Make recommendations to increase the efficiency of patient care or administrative functioning.
General Clerical Duties : Perform similar or related duties as assigned or requested, ensuring compliance with all applicable standards and procedures.
What You'll Bring
- Education : High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience : Two to three years of experience in a healthcare setting performing similar work activities, including clerical, billing, or insurance processing.
- Skills and Abilities : Ability to endure periods of heavy workload or stress.Capability to work with frequent interruptions and respond appropriately to unexpected situations.
Skill in interacting with irate customers and maintaining professionalism.Proficiency in interacting with physicians and staff, participating as a team member with individuals inside and outside the department.
Ability to file alphabetically and numerically, general computer knowledge, and basic math skills.Working knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT coding and insurance procedures.
Physical ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force frequently and transport self to and from off-site locations.
Work Schedule
- Hours : Generally Monday through Friday, day shift.
- Flexibility : Occasional requirements to cover special events.
- Environment : Primarily an office setting with occasional requirements to move about the facility and handle physical tasks such as lifting up to 10 pounds.
