Salary range : $179,056 to $206,910.00 annually commensurate with experience

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Help us to build a one-stop shop for public health in the Western U.S., where every door is the right door to best support our clients.

The position of Director, New Initiatives, will play a key leadership role for Heluna Health and will report to the CEO.

The role oversees the coordination and initial implementation of high-priority, transformative projects / service lines from concept to maturity (some of which are highlighted in the organization’s Long-Term Portrait and its FY 22-25 Strategic Plan).

This position will work collaboratively across multiple teams to build new revenue-generating strategic service lines for the organization.

Areas of initial focus will be to build revenue-generating training and consulting capacity, as well as community support services that address the social determinants of health and can be billable through insurance.

This role will be expected to work at both the strategic and tactical levels. Successful prior experience launching similar types of revenue-generating service lines (in areas such as community health, social supports, training and / or advisory realms a must).

The Director will be responsible for overseeing the work of individual service-line leaders who will each execute on service line leadership, including daily operations, compliance, new business development, contracting, billing, IT and reporting in partnership with cross-functional support teams.

The Director will lead the strategic direction and be responsible for the success of the new lines under their leadership.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provide Business Development & Strategic Oversight for New Initiatives

  • Lead the team that builds new, mission-driven service lines and revenue models for Heluna Health, including expanding the provision of billable social needs, training and consulting.
  • Aligning with Heluna Health’s Long-Term Portrait, work with the CEO to set ambitious and achievable goals that are mission-aligned and revenue producing for the organization.
  • Create & manage appropriate team structures to implement the service lines within the Director’s portfolio.
  • Track service line performance to ensure the successful completion of short and long-term goals.
  • Manage and actively participate in strategic planning; and extensively collaborate with the Heluna Health senior leadership team.
  • Exercise independent discretion and judgment and assume full responsibilities for resolving issues and problems of material importance.
  • Act as an advisor and thought partner to the CEO and across the HH senior team.

Project Management / Stewardship

  • Assume responsibility for keeping service-line objectives on-track and achieved on a timely basis. Work with service line leads and IT to ensure optimal IT to meet / exceed service line needs, always maintaining HIPAA compliance.
  • Set market pricing, as allowed in a nonprofit context, and ensure timely billing for services.
  • Work with service line leads to ensure optimal customer service and troubleshoot to solve problems, as required.
  • Track and assess progress toward goals / priorities and takes appropriate action to influence outcomes.
  • Conduct analysis of service line performance and report, as requested, to CEO and to the organization’s Board of Directors.
  • Collaborate with fellow team members, developing plans, defining and communicating options, and making recommendations regarding appropriate courses of action based on thorough understanding of desired outcomes, expectations and timelines.
  • Oversee the production and delivery of service line reports, financial updates, monthly programmatic updates and other updates, as required.
  • Build relationships with clients and regularly update them on the progress of our services, as requested.
  • Independently manage critical, timely and important short-term and long-term special projects as needed.

Team Building

  • Manage professional and administrative staff with an initial group of 2-3 direct reports that, if successful, will grow over time.
  • Work with the CEO, senior team and all staff to develop and support a culture of continuous quality-improvement, shared efficiencies and professionalism within the team, as well as one that responds promptly and accurately to both internal and external requests.
  • Build and supervise members of the New Initiatives team. Support personnel in annual work plans and goal setting. Evaluate progress accordingly.

Serve on Collaborative Teams, as Requested

  • Represent New Initiatives by participating on the organization’s senior team and / or additional internal working groups, as requested.
  • Participate in Board meetings, as requested.
  • Build and stay in close working relationship and coordination with a wide range of offices and staff, internal or external to Heluna Health.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in health sciences, social sciences or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 10 years successful experience in management (including management of professional and administrative staff), with proven success in creating and launching new, revenue-generating service lines (in areas of focus, such as such as community health, social supports, training and / or advisory realms) required.
  • Additional experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis or possess at least six (10) cumulative years of full-time administrative supervisory experience in leading health, education and / or social service-related service lines.
  • Planning, operations, analysis and reporting within a large complex organization is a must.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate degree or combination of graduate degrees (MBA, MBA / MPH, MD / MBA or related combinations of professional training coupled with experience as noted above) preferred.
  • Experience in new business development related to the provision of health and / or social services.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. High level of creativity, initiative, and motivation. Superb presentation skills, including the presence to deal effectively with senior level administrators and key donors.
  • Excellent project management skills required. Previous experience with managing large scale, cross-functional projects in health, education, social service, or a similar field, preferred.

Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.

Strong organizational skills, a flexible work style and ability to manage multiple challenging projects simultaneously in a fast-paced work environment.

Ability to balance and prioritize tasks and deliver timely outcomes.

  • Experience with Medicaid / CalAIM implementation, including with working with internal and external client / partner providers, such as Community Health Workers (CHWs), Doulas, Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs), Lactation Consultants, Enhanced Care Management (ECM), and Community Supports (CS) personnel.
  • Experience with populations of focus, including birth equity, people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, chronic health conditions, mental health and substance use, justice-involved individuals.
  • Experience establishing and / or maintaining relationships with managed care plans, healthcare providers, community organizations, and other stakeholders to enhance service delivery and ensure compliance with managed care plan requirements, as well as state and federal regulations.
  • Evaluate program operations and activities in terms of overall effectiveness and compliance; use data to inform program decisions, track performance against goals, and identify areas for improvement.

Implement improvements and modifications as necessary.

Experience in and working knowledge of Medicaid / Medi-Cal billing infrastructure and implementation, including work with external client / partner providers;

experience in and working knowledge of Medicaid / Medi-Cal practice management and billing IT implementation.

  • Experience with community-based service providers in a managed care environment.
  • Experience with HIPAA compliance.
