Position Summary

This position will be responsible to define Functional Safety requirements across a wide range of technological advancements, including EVs and L2 / L4 ADAS.

We are looking for a team player who will be tasked with working with several other areas of engineering between PACCAR divisions.

The Functional Safety Engineer will lead the development of Functional safety work products and requirements for systems related to commercial EVs, Automated Driving (L2+) and Autonomous (L4) trucks being developed at PACCAR Inc.

We are looking for a highly energetic and creative thinker with attention to detail.

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Perform safety related analysis, derive, and specify safety requirements and safety concepts.
  • Create work products for systems needed and conduct hazard and risk analysis.
  • Create and maintain applicable specifications in IBM DOORS / DOORS Next Generation (DNG) / MEDINI.
  • Lead / participate in software peer reviews and Functional Safety to ensure compliance to requirements.
  • Responsible for compliance with PACCAR Inc. processes and safety procedures.
  • Represent the team globally as a key partner to the product.
  • Support and / or lead activities for customer outreach and education in these technologies and their respective use cases.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical degree required.
  • 1+ years of experience with automotive or similar electronic modules and / or systems engineering.
  • Design / Development of safety-critical systems / components (ISO26262).
  • Experience with requirement management tools such as DOORS, DNG, JAMA, etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Good communication skills and basic project management skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with colleagues local and at remote sites.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity.
  • Strong technical leadership skills and ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.

Desired Skills & Attributes

  • Understanding of major automotive or Heavy Truck vehicle systems such as Advanced Driver-Assistance (ADAS), Motion Control, Automotive Network, and Powertrain.
  • Experience in writing and comprehending software and hardware requirements.
  • Experience in automotive product release and specification process.
  • Experience using Requirements Management tools and or PLM systems.
  • Level I Functional Safety Certification.

Additional Job Board Information

At PACCAR, we value talent and promote growth and development. The salary range for the Functional Safety Engineer position is $75,100-$112,300 annually.

This position is also eligible for a holiday gift. Additionally, this role is eligible for the full range of benefit options listed above.
