Description :

NCYAA houses the Regional Safe Schools Program (RSSP) and an Alternative Learning Opportunities Program (ALOP) for students in grades 6-12 who have not been successful in the traditional middle school or high school setting.

The Co-Principalship is a new model of leadership at NCYAA to operationalize our new strategic plan goal of becoming a premiere alternative education program.

At NCYAA, the Co-Principal of Educational Programming’s primary job is to drive academic and social-emotional learning outcomes for students.

The Co-Principal will lead and develop teachers to improve their instruction and drive student achievement in addition to developing a positive school culture for teachers and students, creating systems for the ongoing development of school staff and ensuring a restorative approach to student behaviors.

The Co-Principal works a 200 day calendar, 185 days with staff and / or students and 15 days beyond the school year for planning purposes.

The Co-Principal of Instructional Programming will partner closely with the Co-Principal of Operations whose main responsibilities will include scheduling, student intake, district communication, safety, transportation and food service, among others.

Job Summary :

  • Works collaboratively with the Co-Principal of Operations to set ambitious school wide goals that prepare students for life success
  • Builds self and school staff’s knowledge and expertise in effective instructional design, academic standards and restorative practices for classroom management
  • Develops teachers to provide rigorous and high quality instruction which maps to assessment
  • Leads analysis of academic and behavior data to understand what will improve student behavior, attendance and performance
  • Regularly observes and coaches teachers to ensure they are providing high impact teaching
  • Ensures teachers can collaborate, analyze their practice and their student data and adjust instruction
  • Guides social workers to be an integral part of student and staff wellbeing
  • Leads whole-school professional development that drives improvement in teacher practice
  • Co-leads school leadership team
  • Models expectations for leaders, teachers and students on school-wide practices for creating a positive learning culture
  • Engages and collaborates with families
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Strong commitment to serving struggling and historically underserved students in middle and / or high school
  • Experience in building, leading and maintaining a positive school culture for adults and students
  • Possess strong problem-solving and organizational skills; willingness to persist with students and staff
  • Advocacy skills, including the ability to negotiate, compromise and confront conflict professionally
  • Expert communication skills and ability to convey information to different stakeholders
  • Demonstrated commitment to North Cook’s stated values and beliefs
  • Ability to develop, facilitate and set direction across an entire school and invest and motivate others to action
  • Experience in creating inclusive environments that honor and support a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives
  • Develop, facilitate and ensure positive outcomes of teachers and teams within the school
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt as needed

Qualifications :

Candidates should have experience in school leadership preferably as a principal, assistant principal, dean or other educational leader.

Candidates should possess or be eligible to obtain a PEL with Principal or Superintendent endorsement, and maintain the ability to evaluate teachers and social workers.

Experience with historically underserved populations is preferred. Spanish speaking is preferred.

Salary, Benefits and Working Conditions :

The Co-Principal will earn a salary of approximately $100,000-$115,000 depending on experience, skillset and level of education.

Retirement benefits for this position are facilitated through the Teacher’s Retirement System (TRS) at the state of Illinois.

The Co-Principal will follow the school’s schedule for vacation days and a paid 2 week winter break, agree on the 15 additional work days beyond the teacher’s calendar to be agreed upon with leadership, and receive 2 personal days and 10 sick days.
