Job Summary

Under the direction of Associate Professor and PI Peter James, this position will oversee, manage, and support all aspects of various complex, multi-disciplinary, and extramurally funded research projects, including the development of new grant proposals.
The incumbent will manage data coordinating center activities for multiple research projects, including all IRB requirements, budgeting, and monitoring of participant recruitment, performance of data quality checks and audits, and submission of results to funding agencies.
The incumbent will establish protocols and procedures for data and sample collection.
This position is based within and will support the mission of the UC Davis Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH).
The COEH at UC Davis is part of the state-legislated Northern California COEH, which brings together faculty and staff on the Davis, Berkeley, and San Francisco campuses of the University of California to :
- Educate future leaders in occupational and environmental health.
- Develop new knowledge related to occupational and environmental health issues.
- Bring the resources of the University of California to people affected by health hazards in their workplaces or communities.
These three core activities are grounded in a multi-campus, multidisciplinary approach to problem solving based upon teamwork and training in medicine, nursing, public health, and related fields.
The UC Davis COEH builds upon these core areas through research built upon strengths of UC Davis and translational activities that broaden the influence of the Center.

Minimum Qualifications
- Degree in a public health or related field and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Experience managing large, multidisciplinary research projects and applying project management principles and concepts.
- Experience with research methods in epidemiology and population-based research.
- Experience with IRB processes and writing protocols and modification for human subjects committee approval.
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting data quality issues and recommending strategies to manage and correct data collection issues.
- Experience facilitating collaboration and providing training.
- Experience working with a variety of stakeholders with different priorities for project outcomes including faculty experts from multiple disciplines such as clinical medicine, biostatistics, and epidemiology.
- Academic background and experience in public health, environmental health, or occupational health required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results.
- Strong ability to work collaboratively with internal and external peers, managers and teams.
- Proven program planning and management of projects.
- Demonstrated skills using Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong organizational, problem solving, planning and decision-making skills.
- Detail-oriented.
- Ability to work independently and have self-direction in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience conducting basic, exploratory data analysis.
- Experience engaging with collaborators and policymakers through meetings and discussions to advance project or study goals.
- Experience presenting at conferences and holding workshops with community members.
- Knowledge of university policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated skills using Project Management Software.

Department Overview
The Department of Public Health Sciences is a large, complex teaching, research, and clinical department in the UC Davis School of Medicine.
The mission of the department is to improve the health of people using approaches based in epidemiology, biostatistics, economics, and behavioral science through research, educational programs, clinical programs, public service, and policy development.
Professor Peter James is based in the Department of Public Health Sciences and leads and / or coordinates several large, multisite research studies.
