DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Conduct applied research on the impact of insufficient sleep, circadian misalignment, and / or fatigue on Warfighter performance, health, and wellbeing.
- Perform research studies to include writing protocols, executing protocols, analyzing data, and writing manuscripts.
- Support and or conduct protocols utilizing the Sleep Laboratory to investigate stress, PTSD, TBI, Mental Health Research, neurotrauma, as well as the effects of blast, resilience, sleep deprivation, and pharmacological agents.
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for data collection, and ensure that all study data are collected, recorded, documented, and archived in compliance with Good Clinical Practices and pertinent government rules, regulations, and policies.
- Administer psychological and performance measures to subjects as specified in protocols.
- Maintain an appropriate, professional demeanor in all interactions with human research participants and research collaborators.
- Oversee recruitment and screening of volunteers for human research protocols.
- Administer neurocognitive tasks, symptom questionnaires, informed consent, and other related paperwork.
- Collect physiological data (e.g., metabolic rate) and aid in their compilation / entry for later analyses.
- Provide technical support in actigraph utilization for all research studies (field and laboratory) to include maintenance, testing, trouble-shooting, and repair of actigraphs.
- Train, lead, and / or coordinate technical staff members in all areas of polysomnography, performance testing, and actigraphy, and additional functions to include (but not limited to) PC-based initialization of devices with appropriate parameters and power sources;
data acquisition; and data processing.
- Assist in Subject recruitment physicals, including administration of standardized psychological evaluations.
- Will be responsible for a number of sleep studies to include, pre-site visit preparations, as well as site visit responsibilities and travel / overnight stays for up to studies (5) studies.
- Conduct site visits as dictated by the monitoring plan, focusing on : subject entry criteria, informed consent process, and verification of data accuracy and protocol / study compliance.
- Communicate with site Investigator / coordinator any issues, including adverse effects, that require follow-up, action(s) to be taken, and expected timelines for completion for all action items.
REQUIRED DEGREE / EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION :
- Must have Bachelor’s Degree in relevant scientific field of study including but not limited to Polysomnographic / Behavioral Biology.
- Must have and maintain an active certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Must have and maintain an active Registered Polysomnographic Technician (RPSGT) certification.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE :
- Minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in conducting and scoring polysomnographic studies.
- Must possess a minimal proficiency in common productivity software programs including Word, Excel, Sigma Plot and others.
- Must have a comprehensive understanding of basic descriptive statistics.
REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE :
- Must be U.S. Citizen.
- Must hold a minimum DoD Clearance level of Public Trust, with ability to obtain Secret.
