Sanitation Coordinator

Overview

A successful candidate will play an active role in the City of College Park's existing operational success. The purpose of the position is to assist with the management of daily operations of the Sanitation division. Successful performance contributes to the efficient and effective operation of the Sanitation division, and, by extension, Public Works Department. Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate of available guidelines and procedures as well as interpret precedents. This position is responsible for the overall collection of trash, garbage, and other refuse; recycling; and sanitation-related inspections for the City.

Responsibilities

• Supervises the activities of subordinates in the proper collection of City sanitation; assigns and schedules work; checks and reviews work in progress; ensures that appropriate safety standards are followed.
• Assists with hiring, training, and instructing Sanitation personnel in work methods, rules, and standards.
• Monitors safety regulations at worksites to protect City personnel, equipment, and existing structures.
• Works with Sanitation Lead Driver to ensure that sanitation collection is properly completed.
• Facilitates problem-solving as needed, regarding equipment scheduling, assignments, and employee complaints.
• Performs field inspections and resolves problems as deemed necessary.
• Respond to customer inquiries and handle difficult customer-related problems.
• Assists in the preparation of timecards and other reports.
• May operate refuse trucks of all types and related apparatus.
• Initiates appropriate disciplinary action under the direction; recommends all disciplinary actions leading up to termination to the Sanitation Superintendent when necessary.
• Responsible for maintenance and operational readiness of sanitation trucks.
• Coordinates equipment repairs with the City garage.
• May support the activities of other Public Works divisions as necessary.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that logically relate to the position.
