GENERAL SUMMARY :

Subject to the appointment by the President of RUSH University (the "University"), the Provost serves as the Chief Operating Officer of RUSH University with the primary academic responsibility for the University and its three Colleges (Medicine, Nursing, and Health Sciences).

The Provost is the individual responsible for executing the Strategic Plan for the University in support of the President, the Deans and Colleges.

The Provost works as the senior staff member and reports directly to the President of the University to ensure that the research and education mission are thriving while promoting integration with Rush University System for Health.

The Provost is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the implementation of the academic and operational policies of the University.

These policy areas include, but are not limited to, accreditation, admissions, curriculum, diversity / equity / inclusion, financial aid, program assessment, and student and faculty issues.

UNIVERSITY PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT :

The Provost commits to executing and advancing the University's mission of outstanding health sciences education, conducting impactful research in a culture of inclusion, and focusing on health promotion and preservation, as well as upholding the University's core values of innovation, collaboration, accountability, respect, and excellence.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Chief Operating Officer responsible for the academic mission of the University, including but not limited to management of administration, programs, and academic resources.
  • Provides oversight for the education and research mission of the University and concerns of the students, faculty, and staff.
  • Facilitates the integration of the University with Rush System for Health. Is responsible for the Stewardship process of the Endowed academic funds in partnership with the Philanthropy Office.
  • Serves as the signatory for University wide academic affiliations including external promotion of the University along with the support of the President.
  • Executes a strategic plan that will advance all missions of the University by building upon current strengths and being responsive to rapidly evolving objectives, technologies, and desired outcomes.
  • Assists in the recruitment of outstanding faculty members and leaders for the University.
  • Serves as an effective and accountable senior leader and serves in the absence of the President, when required.

Works collaboratively with institutional offices, e.g. Compliance, Legal, Human Resources, Marketing, Communications, and others to advance the mission and vision of the University.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED :

  • Possess an earned doctorate degree in a recognized health sciences discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Demonstrated experience in an executive leadership capacity in an academic health system, higher education or related setting.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advance the University's core values of innovation, collaboration, accountability, respect, and excellence in all relationships and encounters.
  • A record of strong people and communication skills with an ability to communicate a clear vision; educate and develop others;

and, work effectively with diverse constituencies.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of state and national higher education accrediting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to form productive and meaningful partnerships and networks that promote the University, health care and higher education partners, and participation in Chicago local communities.
  • Experience in creating a collegial culture and environment that welcomes and embraces diversity.
