Geographic locations in which MMSI currently operates include the U.S East, Gulf & West Coasts, and Alaska. The Corporate Office is in Southern California (Ventura) and its Regional Boat Maintenance Center a technically advanced facility in Woodbine Georgia.

How you would make an impact / key responsibilities :

Join the dynamic MMSI team as a Diesel Mechanic responsible for performing maintenance and repair for the Southeast Region Port Operations for the Navy.

This position is located at our Regional Boat Maintenance Center in Woodbine, GA, nearby and supporting the Kings Bay Submarine Base.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to :

Diesel Mechanic :

  • Perform routine preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance to the following Marine Diesel Engines, 455HP Cummins QSM11 CM570, 285 HP Cummins QSL9 Also 130 HP 4 Cylinder Volvo Penta and 20 HP Isuzu.
  • Assists when needed, with the preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance of various types of outboard gasoline engines to include Yamaha, Honda and Mercury.
  • Tests engine, transmission, rigging, propeller, navigational, and related systems to diagnose malfunctions, using various measuring instruments.
  • Replace or repair defective vessel and engine components.
  • Examine repair or installation orders, drawings, and vessel, utilizing knowledge based on experience to determine extent of repairs required or modifications necessary for installation of equipment, accessories, and hardware.
  • Install and test steering gear, sanitation and refrigeration systems, electrical systems and accessories, electronic components and accessories, hardware, trim and related components following manufacturer's instructions and drawings.
  • Performs maintenance and repair on hydraulic pumps, valves, and regulators.
  • Position and secure blocking at bottom and sides of vessels according to size, weight, and weight distribution of vessels, using fasteners, hand tools, and power tools.

What is needed to succeed :

  • The Diesel Mechanic shall be factory or dealer qualified / certified, or technical school trained, or have three (3) years’ documented resume experience in troubleshooting procedures, predictive, preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Ability to obtain base access badges.

Physical Demands : Light to Moderate. Please refer to the USCG Merchant Mariner Medical and Physical Examination Requirements for Merchant Mariner Credentials (Form CG-719 K).

Work Environment :

Office, pier side, associated facilities and aboard vessels and craft.
