Summary / Objective of Position :
The School of Arts & Humanities invites applications for a full time faculty
position of Assistant Professor - Painting and Drawing. The ideal candidate will
be an artist with college teaching experience and a deep appreciation for the
history of Navajo art and life. Candidates will teach all levels of undergraduate
painting and drawing. An understanding of Diné wisdom and philosophy as it
is related to the practice of Diné art is preferred.The candidate will support
and develop the BFA Fine Arts program.

The School of Arts & Humanities invites applications for a full time faculty position of Assistant
Professor in Painting and Drawing. The ideal candidate will be an artist with an active practice
and with college teaching experience who has a deep understanding for the history of Navajo art
and teachings. Candidates will teach at all levels of undergraduate painting and drawing.
An understanding of Diné philosophy (SNBH) is preferred. The candidate will support and
develop the BFA Fine Arts program.
Duties and responsibilities include being an active participant in the
Diné College community and will work to support the mission and vision of Diné College.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
Minimum :
MFA in studio art practice
in studio arts with a focus on painting (Navajo painting preferred)
or demonstration of MFA in progress and a current portfolio.
Preferred :
MFA in studio arts. Experience in Navajo painting preferred. Two years of college level teaching preferred.
Knowledge :
Maintain a high level of expertise in the content being taught.
Create and execute meaningful lessons to work towards the department learning outcomes.
Ensure classes are held as scheduled by the college.
Participate in program curriculum development and appointed committees
file appropriate course syllabus in canvas for each course taught.
Skills :
Serve as academic advisor to assigned students.
Keep appropriate number of office hours per week.
Demonstrate competency in use of campus-provided technology and software supporting
instruction and Participate in designated college ceremonies, meetings mandatory trainings,
professional development, Participate in faculty evaluation process.
Abilities :
Maintain and upkeep Painting, Drawing, 2D, and studio
Coordinate with other faculty to oversee the Studio Arts Foundations Courses
Physical Requirements, Work Environment & Travel :
Ability to instruct for extended periods of time in a classroom environment.
Effective communication skills both written and spoken should be clear, respectful, and considerate
towards the Diné community.
Other Requirement(s) :
Ability to critically and constructively contribute to the BFA Fine Arts program.
