Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the installation, support, and maintenance of equipment and software related to the infrastructure of local-area and area-wide networks for the Town.

This position is also responsible for providing technical support to staff for technology-related issues, and the supervision of employees.

Supports server hardware, routers, switches, wireless access points, firewalls, and equipment used for network connectivity;

monitors routers, switches, WAPs, and replaces or re-sets hardware as needed; responsible for the troubleshooting of wireless networks.

  • Supervises employees; conducts and oversees hiring, scheduling, employee feedback, performance reviews, staff training and development, discipline / termination, and employee recognition processes for assigned staff.
  • Documents proper resolution procedures and ensures all work follows technical specifications; maintains and updates network documentation and diagrams.
  • Assists in the application of patches to routers, switches, wireless access points, firewalls, and any other equipment used for network connectivity;

assists in the administration of SANs, fiber channel switches, and managing the Town’s data storage.

  • Monitors and maintains the Town’s IP address scheme, DNS, and DHCP services; assists in the installation, maintenance, security, and connectivity for remote access (VPN).
  • Manages and coordinates technology and security projects, including the strategic planning of new technology implementations;

ensures continued progress toward completion of projects and finds resolutions to any problems that arise.

Assists system administrators in performing routine administrative tasks such as account creation / deletion, password changes, and mailbox creation / deletion;

assigns and creates help tickets for staff; provides on-site support for users needing assistance with PCs, laptops, and printers.

  • Works with vendors to purchase equipment as directed; manages purchasing records and follows purchasing policies and additional guidelines.
  • Recommends upgrades, patches, new applications, or equipment; researches and investigates new hardware and application options;

participates in the evaluation in the RFP selection and evaluation process of projects containing technology components.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, certification and / or licensure required.

An equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential duties and meet the necessary employment standards may be considered.

Requires a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Networking, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, supplemented by four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a related field.

Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Driver's License issued by the State of Colorado for the type of vehicle or equipment operated;

safe driving record and a minimum of two (2) years of driving history.

Possession of or ability to readily obtain CJIS Level 4 Security Awareness Certification within six (6) months of hire.

Employment Standards

  • Knowledge of core networking protocols, routing, DNS, DHCP, TCP / IP, and ethernet technologies.
  • Knowledge and experience with SANs, iSCSI, and fiber channel technology.
  • Knowledge of the configuration of SNMP monitoring systems.
  • Knowledge of technical policies, rules, and procedures.
  • Skill in the training and supervision of personnel.
  • Skill in the use of computers and various software programs.
  • Skill in working with high-voltage electrical circuits and RF energy generating devices.
  • Skills in verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to identify and resolve technical problems in PC workstation hardware, printers, and systems software.
  • Ability to create, manage, and maintain project / annual budgets.
  • Ability to design network solutions to simplify complex routing and connectivity issues.
  • Ability to review and understand statements of work from vendors.
  • Ability to prioritize daily tasks and adjust to accommodate needs as necessary.
  • Ability to be self-motivated, take initiative, and learn quickly.
  • Ability to work independently and problem-solve with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends, evenings, and holidays or on-call rotation when needed.
  • Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment background check.

Additional Information

Full salary range : $78,744-$114,179

Work is frequently performed in a climate-controlled office environment, but employees holding this position may be exposed to extreme cold or heat and wetness / humidity.

The noise level in the office environment is low to moderate. The noise level in mechanical, server and other equipment rooms can be high and may range from moderate to extreme.

The employee may occasionally work with or around hazardous items or hazardous conditions such as mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, chemicals, or radiant energy.
