50 Experience : L&D Experience Required License : Not specified Certifications : Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Required Must-Have : Knowledge and expertise in operating room technology, High School Education, CST Certification Job Description : - Perform "scrub" assignments according to established guidelines, including surgical scrub, gowning, and gloving procedures.
- Set up sterile instrument tables and prepare supplies according to the type of operation.- Assist in the draping of patients and operative areas according to needs.
- Anticipate and assist the surgeon with instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies by understanding procedural requirements.
- Maintain a correct count of sponges, needles, and instruments with the circulating nurse and report discrepancies according to established policies.
- Maintain and monitor aseptic techniques at all times and implement corrective measures in the event of contamination.- Assist in the care, handling, and disposition of specimens according to policy.
- Assist in the application of dressings and securing drainage systems.- Assist in moving patients using approved transfer devices.
- Discard soiled materials in appropriate receptacles and place approved instruments for reprocessing in the appropriate bins.
- Decontaminate all equipment, instruments, and reusable supplies and clean the room as prescribed.- Assemble and make available all necessary supplies according to the requirements of the patient and surgical procedure.
- Provide special equipment before, during, and after surgical procedures as needed.- Protect patients by ensuring correct positioning, application of restraints, and strict maintenance of an aseptic environment.
- Assist in the application of dressing, moving patients, and transferring to recovery rooms as directed.- Assist the nurse in preparing medications or solutions to be administered during surgery, under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse.
- Label all medications not already labeled and announce medication details audibly.- Assist in meeting operational needs, including patient transportation and operating room maintenance.
- Show medication labels to the person administering the medication and save all medication vials until the patient leaves the room.
- Perform tasks that demonstrate physical stamina, dexterity, communication, and interpersonal skills necessary for effectiveness.
Note : Ability to read, write, understand, and speak English in a clear and concise manner is required. Courses in operating room technology, science, biology, and chemistry are preferred.
