General Description :

The Workforce Development Division at the Community College of Philadelphia is seeking an experienced and skilled practitioner to serve as an adjunct faculty member for our Precision Machining CNC program.

The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of Precision Machining, particularly Computer Numeric Controls (CNC) , and be capable of effectively instructing students in both theoretical and practical aspects of CNC operation, with a high-level of experience working with Haas equipment.

This role plays a key part in preparing students for careers in advanced manufacturing, ensuring they gain the essential skills needed to operate CNC machines and other equipment while preparing for the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) certification.

As this program grows, there may be potential for this part-time faculty role to develop into a full-time opportunity.

Schedule :

Classes are held during weekdays, typically one day per week, generally between 9 : 00 am and 3 : 00 pm, with the potential for additional days.

Some evening classes may also be scheduled. Please note that course schedules may change and are based on the College’s student needs and enrollment.

Compensation :

Hourly rate of $50-$60 an hour.

Our division offers a comprehensive menu of high-quality continuing education and career training programs delivered by expert faculty.

We serve diverse business lines, including Continuing Education and Career Training, Contract Training, Corporate College, Small Business Training, and Workforce Testing.

Specific Responsibilities :

Instruct students in foundational CNC machining concepts utilizing HAAS machines, including but not limited to :

  • Reading and interpreting engineering prints
  • Identifying and using precision measuring instruments
  • Performing accurate measurements long-hand
  • Understanding metal compositions
  • Utilizing reference charts and tools
  • Ability to train students in G and M code programing

In addition, the instructor will :

  • Provide hands-on training in the setup, operation, and maintenance of CNC machines, specifically HAAS machines.
  • Teach the use of additional precision machining equipment such as Drill Press, Milling Machines, and Lathes.
  • Prepare students for the first three levels of the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) certification : Machining Level 1.
  • Develop and deliver engaging curriculum designed to enhance student learning outcomes.
  • Evaluate student progress through assessments, lab work, and practical applications.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, work safety protocols, and CNC machining technology advancements.
  • Collaborate with Workforce Development staff to ensure the successful delivery of the program.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience working in Precision Machining.
  • Must have experience and strong knowledge working on HAAS machines
  • Trades certifications demonstrating training on various CNC machines, particularly HAAS equipment.
  • Strong expertise in working with HAAS machines, Drill Press, Milling Machines, and Lathes.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of work safety protocols related to machining operations.
  • Ability to prepare students for the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) certification, specifically Machining Level 1.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively convey complex concepts to students with varying levels of knowledge.
  • Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Previous teaching or instructional experience.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of hands-on experience working in Precision Machining
  • Demonstrated experience teaching diverse student populations and addressing equity gaps.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching within a community college.
  • Bilingual or other language proficiency.
