The Adult Forensic Team is looking for a Mental Health Clinician to provide mental health court liaison services within the Adult Services Program.

The Clinician will work as part of a treatment team and provide clinical services to individuals with mental health needs who are involved in the treatment court system.

The clinician will work within Overland Park Municipal Court, the focus of which will be primarily determination of approval into court programs;

completing clinical assessments needed for admission into programs; and administrative duties of managing the programs, including data tracking.

Johnson County has implemented a skill-based pay plan of up to $4200 annually for staff who have obtained licensure by the BSRB at the Clinical Level.

Job Description

Additional duties include :

Coordinates continuity of services for client care within the treatment court system, serves as a clinical expert working cross-sectionally with agency teams;

reviews and approves documentation and Plans of Care developed by staff to ensure services are consistent with level of care needed for each individual client in the court programs.

  • Builds and maintains partnerships with city and county court employees, serves as point of contact between the mental health center and the courts;
  • provides consultation when clients are at risk of revocation; provides support and guidance to Johnson County residents who are involved in the dual systems of mental health treatment and court;

physically attends courts dockets.

Responsible for collecting and utilizing data to determine program outcomes; completes reports; monitoring program participants;

ensures all reports submitted by treatment teams are timely and accurate.

  • Conducts comprehensive clinical assessments for court programs as a part of the intake and diagnostic process, ongoing provision of services, and / or crisis intervention;
  • identifies individual needs and diagnoses substance use and / or mental health disorders; assesses individual risk for suicide and other safety related concerns;

completes Mental Status Exams on high risk clients; determines the need for medication evaluation and referral; interprets and communicates relevant information to treatment teams, families, medical staff, and other stakeholders.

  • Develops complex treatment and intervention plans to address the clinical needs of individuals in single or multiple areas of focus;
  • networks with other community agencies to research and coordinate a variety of resources and services to address comprehensive, intensive, or long term individual needs;

encourages the establishment and maintenance of support systems; collaborates with other providers in the development, implementation, and review of plans.

  • Provides psychotherapy and other clinical and therapeutic services as needed to support the treatment team; ensures services provided are consistent with individual plans;
  • initiates and attends individual and / or group meetings; organizes and facilitates skill development, clinical, and support groups;
  • responds to emergency or crisis related requests from individuals and / or agencies; arranges for appropriate care and services;

reviews and updates diagnosis and level of care.

  • Completes and submits clinical documentation regarding services provided; evaluates and documents individuals' progress according to measurable goals;
  • reviews and approves documentation and plans of care developed by other staff to ensure services are consistent with the level of care required for each individual's needs;

monitors the quality and effectiveness of services provided.

Job Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements :

Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or other Human Services field and Kansas Behavioral Sciences licensure* at the master's level in the area of focus are required.

Requires a KS / MO driver's license and an acceptable driving record.

Applicants who meet Kansas licensure requirements may be considered if Kansas licensure is obtained by time of an employment offer and licensure is pending confirmation at the time of employment application.

Kansas Behavioral Sciences license at the clinical level; licensed as a Master's or Clinical Addiction Counselor by the Behavioral Health Sciences Regulatory Board with the State of Kansas, experience working in a community mental health setting preferred.

Johnson County Government requires reference / background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department / Agency.

Preferred Job Requirements :

Substance Abuse license at the Master's Level or Kansas Behavioral Sciences license at the clinical level and one year of experience in the area of focus are preferred.

Physical, Environmental, and Special Working Conditions :

All County employees may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.
