Position Summary :

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Speech Pathologist - Pediatric.

In this role, the successful candidate Provides speech-language pathology services under supervision, and any other duties deemed necessary by the Department Head.

Job Responsibilities :

Guides, informs, counsels and provides training to patient / family. Interprets assessment findings and provides information to patient and family in a timely fashion.

Provides information regarding access to SLP services. Engages family in ongoing treatment planning, training re : techniques to improve communication function.

Orients patient caregivers to SLP treatment and interprets SLP role and involves caregivers (as necessary) in planning for treatment termination.

Provides opportunity for expression of feelings regarding the SLP disorder. Provides information regarding community resources (support services, web sites, etc.).

Effectively assesses patientscommunication function andabilities. Screens patient foridentification of SLP assessmentneeds and assigns accurate FIM orWEE FIM ratings.

Uses medicaland social history to determineconstraints on evaluations.Demonstrates thoroughpatient / family interviewingtechniques to determine functionalcommunication, establish patientsunderstanding of SLP goals fortreatment, recovery expectationsand desire for SLP treatment.

Conducts SLP evaluationaccording to P&P manual. Conferswith Program Manager / Supervisorregarding recommendations forpatient management.

Develops, evaluates and plans speech-language pathology treatment programs. Amends treatment plans according to changing communication needs and requirements.

Uses medical, psycho-social information results of SLP evaluation and patient stated goals to develop realistic plan for patients.

Provides clear rationale for all aspects of treatment plan, re-evaluates and amends plan as necessary. Monitors and reassesses functional and clinical programs in a complete manner.

Anticipates and plans for discharge.

Conducts group and individual therapy sessions. Implements plan in individual / group sessions appropriately. Establishes / maintains accepting climate for expression of feelings.

Uses tact, empathy, and timing in provision of feedback.

Acts as representative of SLPdepartment at interdisciplinaryteam conference. Provides conciserelevant reports regardingevaluation findings and progress tophysician and team to enhancetheir understanding of speechlanguage pathology.

Conveysrecommendations for speech / language therapy made by the SLPand discussed at departmentmeetings. Clarifies patients needsand represents patient to the teamwhen needed.

Acts as liaisonbetween the SLP department andthe interdisciplinary serviceinvolved (e.g. nursing, occupationaltherapy etc.)

Documents treatments rendered in accordance with departmental protocol. Maintains clinical documentation according to Departmental P&P manual.

Completes concise, accurate, timely documentation. Keeps patient documentation confidential. Maintains security of all files.

Follows insurance (e.g. Medicare) guidelines for documentation. Documents patient attendance accurately and in a timely fashion.

Participates in implementing theHealth Career OpportunityProgram and in training externs inSpeech-Language PathologyDepartment.

Designs schedule ofactivities and observations for theHCO program. Orients HCOstudents to the department andexplains requirements of theirexperience.

Provides supervisionto externs assigned to therapistscases to enhance trainees level ofknowledge and facilitate traineesprofessional growth.

Assists intrainee evaluation and confers withProgram manager / supervisorregarding trainee progress.

Responsible for special dutiesnecessary for ongoing operation ofdepartment. Carries outassignment as described in P&Pmanual in a timely fashion.

Maytake responsibility for maintainingthe daily operation of clinicalservices.

  • Demonstrates continued proficiency in skills required to treat assigned patient population.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications :

To qualify you must have a MA / MS degree in Speech-Language Pathology; CCC-SLP form ASHA and NY State license in Speech Pathology.

Three years prior experience as a Speech Therapist required. BLS certification (Issued by the American Heart Association-AHA) OR Heartsaver CPR / AED certification (Issued by the American Heart Association-AHA) is required upon entry to the position..

Required Licenses : Speech Pathologist Lic-NYS, ASHA Cert

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements.

The salary range for the role is $50.56 - $57.36 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.

The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses / incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
