General Description :

The Senior IT Infrastructure Architect is responsible for assessing, designing, and integrating NVCC’s technology infrastructure.

The position serves as the technical lead that ensures the College’s infrastructure is robust, scalable, efficient, secure and strategically aligned to business goals.

Duties and Tasks :

  • Responsible for gathering requirements, conducting infrastructural analysis, and producing robust designs that adhere to approved VCCS / NVCC standards and ensuring the design meets all College, VCCS, and State / Federal and security policies
  • Responsible for generating deliverables such as technical architecture documents, technical standards and procedures to keep the users, system owners, and the engineers constantly up to date and in agreement on the architecture and infrastructure layout of an application, system, or platform.
  • Facilitates and reviews the definition and implementation of standards, methodologies and best practices that guide the design of technology solutions such as architecting and implementing solutions requiring integration of multiple platforms, operating systems and applications across the enterprise.
  • Proactively assesses and monitors the current state of services, user requirements, operations requirements, security gaps and industry trends to propose and deliver a roadmap to ensure infrastructure availability, support and adherence to security / compliance requirements.
  • Efficiently / effectively communicates and follows up in a positive and meaningful manner with stakeholders on problem / project status, proper procedures for system evaluations, current task / project priorities and alternatives to requests for services that do not meet standards.
  • Collaborates with other IT teams to help them design and implement effective solutions aligned with the organization’s goals.
  • Mentors team members in technology, architecture, and delivery of solutions
  • Contributes to researching and evaluating new technology for possible deployment in NVCC’s infrastructure.

Must be able to Pass CJIS Level 4 and FBI and Virginia State Police background check. Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's / Required Qualifications Required KSAs :

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of server and systems engineering and administration, Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solutions, cloud-based infrastructure, and data center infrastructure management
  • Ability to develop conceptual and detailed design documentation.
  • Advanced analytical and problem resolution skills.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and mentor technical team members.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Knowledge of networking concepts, structured database, and middleware technologies including application / web servers.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Proficiency in server / storage administration, networking, and cloud technologies including design, implementation, maintenance, and security-hardening.
  • Hands-on experience in infrastructure services including data centers, server and storage management, virtualization, networking, and systems management
  • Working knowledge and hands-on experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining cloud data center infrastructure environments (such as Azure or AWS) including cloud migration techniques and workflows (on-premise to cloud platforms)
  • Experience in a team lead with project management responsibilities or supervisory role
  • Knowledge of techniques or methodologies to achieve non-functional requirements like reliability, availability, resilience, performance, security.
  • Working knowledge of Role Based Access Control, Authentication and Authorization mechanisms.
  • Experience in root cause analysis and troubleshooting.

Additional Considerations Additional Considerations :

  • Industry certifications for VmWare, Cisco, Azure, AWS,
  • Hands-on experience with the following technologies : Microsoft Server including Active Directory management, Powershell.

VMware, Citrix, NAS / SAN Storage (Netapp)

Knowledge and work experience related to state and federal laws and regulations including HIPAA, CJIS, and FERPA.
