Consumer Investigative Reporter

KHOU-TV in Houston, Texas is seeking a Consumer Investigative Reporter who is passionate about helping people and making a difference.

Responsibilities :

• Produce stories that are driven by people who need help with their consumer problems
• Develop, research, and vet story ideas that lead to impactful stories
• Establish and maintain sources
• Write and produce short- and long-term stories for broadcast and web
• Be able to manage multiple stories at various stages of development
• Attend editorial meetings, participate in discussions, and suggest story ideas

Requirements :

• Strong visual storyteller with a track record of producing impactful investigations
• Team player who values collaboration
• Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Clear understanding of journalistic principles and ethics
• Knowledge and respect of the law (libel, slander, copyright, public records, etc.)
• Social media proficiency
• BA / BS in journalism, communications, or related field.
• At least 5-7 years of experience, investigative and / or consumer reporting preferred
• Understanding of the ethics and tenants of professional journalism
• Ability to produce stories that are engaging and memorable
• Knowledge of multiplatform news gathering tools and resources
• Flexibility with schedule, reliability, and dependability
