PRINCIPAL PRODUCTION COST MODELING ENGINEER

Our client is seeking a talented and motivated Principal Product Cost Modeling Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be integral in pioneering a new functionality, focusing on production cost modeling to support Energy Imbalance Market (EIM) and Extended Day-Ahead Market (EDAM) activities.

This essential work will support financial analysis for regional transmission investments, enable expansive west-wide analysis, and strengthen team advocacy efforts with regional peers such as the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA).

Your expertise will also ensure compliance with FERC Order 1920 and support a more robust transmission analysis for our Integrated Resource Plan (IRP).

  • Perform production cost modeling analyses using GridView to conduct comprehensive analyses on the Western Interconnection transmission system and recommend solutions.
  • Inform market operations to identify operational and capacity savings in the near term and long term.
  • Inform strategic transmission investments by determining project, program, and market benefits.
  • Collaborate with regional peers and stakeholders to enhance client's advocacy efforts.
  • Support compliance with regulatory requirements, including FERC Order 1920.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new functionalities at PGE.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Standards Maintains currency in state-of-the- art engineering practices and discerns need for and provides guidance and direction to colleagues on engineering processes and standards.

Provides guidance based on advanced knowledge of the Western Interconnection and applies advanced knowledge of FERC tariff processes and NERC standards.

Evaluates regional transmission opportunities using production cost modeling software and provides recommendation based on outputs.

Performs economic modeling in support of FERC Long-Term Transmission Planning compliance. Contributes to scenario development and performs analyses with the input of stakeholders.

Performs analysis for transmission for the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP). Presentations and / or written communication to executives, stakeholders, and regulators as needed to justify the results of the transmission plan for IRP.

Performs 8760 analyses for system optimization (batteries, load pattern changes, curtailable load analysis, etc.) Perform market simulations for existing and future market constructs.

Participates in, and may serve in a leadership role, in industry forums, workgroups, and / or committees on production cost modeling and economic analysis.

  • Engineering Production Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projects, including establishing work plans to be applied.
  • Project Coordination Actively coordinates with other internal / external team members on complex projects, representing the team to internal and external stakeholders (i.

e., regulatory, technical society, etc.).

Knowledge Sharing Actively advances knowledge management of the enterprise and provides mentoring; participates in professional societies and technical committees and may assist with code / standard authoring;

is externally recognized in the industry as a technical expert; reviews engineering work, resolves resource conflicts and identifies training needs.

Subject matter expert in the company for production cost modeling. Provides guidance and training to other workgroups as needed.

Education / Experience / Certifications

  • Education Requires a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. ABET- accredited engineering program or program accredited by an equivalent agency preferred.
  • Experience Typically eight or more years in related field. Expert level knowledge of GridView modeling or 10+ years of transmission planning in the Western Interconnection.

Advanced knowledge of transmission planning, transmission policy, and market and / or power operations.

  • Certifications, Licenses and Training Professional Engineering (PE) license strongly preferred; may be required based upon role.
  • Valid Drivers License required

  • Advanced knowledge of resource strategy concepts and considerations to identify and evaluate potential opportunities for resource acquisition.
  • Advanced knowledge of electric market modeling and forecasting tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable statutes, policies, rules, regulations and codes.
  • Intermediate skills with programming languages used in department.
