Responsible for the complete field operations of all projects, acting as a leader, recruiter, coach / trainer and negotiator.
The leadership displayed by this individual is critical to the company’s performance. Although primary attention will be toward the self-performance of field tasks, the General Superintendent will also manage the interaction of subcontractors to meet project goals.
Responsibilities
- This key position oversees all phases of a construction project from initial planning to completion. The position will also contribute to plan and design development in the design phase.
- Manages superintendents to effectively meet project goals. Provides site management, sequencing strategies and production strategies to meet goals.
Supports the vision and strategy of Project Managers by providing manpower and equipment needed to carry out construction tasks.
Contributes to project strategies during the planning and design phases.
- Supports the development the overall construction plan for the project in conjunction with the Project Manager.
- Oversees, manages, and document all day-to-day job site activities including OSHA safety compliance requirements.
- Provides guidance and overview of staff superintendents, look-ahead scheduling and planning. Reviews and assists staff with developing planning and makes certain plan is communicated throughout the project team.
- Makes sure that superintendents attend safety pre-construction meetings and weekly foreman and safety meetings. Sits in on meetings as required.
- Responsible for all employment aspects to maintain a skilled field workforce capable of carrying out the field tasks of the company.
This includes Interview job applicants for all field positions, hiring, training, motivation, promotions, wage rate determinations, discipline and terminations as needed.
- Quality Control : Responsible for the delivery of a quality product for all projects. This includes training, inspections, corrections and the determination of means and methods to be used for field tasks.
- Budget Control : Responsible to control project costs within established budgets by monitoring production rates and material utilization (yields) on the projects.
The General Superintendent is to be granted open book access to all budgets and project cost reports required to monitor the cost status of every project.
Scheduling : Responsible to monitor all schedules and to direct, assign and allocate field staff and equipment needed to keep projects on schedule.
This includes the authority to direct daily schedules and overtime needed to maintain project schedules.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of construction experience (Preferred).
- Driver's License
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and a team-oriented mindset.
