JOB SUMMARY :
As a Garnishment Administrator, for the City of Atlanta you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with legal requirements related to wage garnishments and other court-ordered deductions.
You will be responsible for accurately processing and administering 300+ various types of garnishments, including child support orders, tax levies, and creditor garnishments.
Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a thorough understanding of relevant laws and regulations are essential for success in this role.
GARNISHMENT ADMINISTRATOR RELATIONSHIP :
Reports to the Payroll Manager
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB :
Garnishment Processing :
- Receive and review garnishment orders from courts, government agencies, and creditors.
- Analyze orders to determine applicable withholding amounts and timelines for compliance.
- Input garnishment information into payroll systems accurately and promptly.
- Coordinate with Payroll Manager, Payroll Specialist, Third Party vendors and accounting teams to ensure timely and accurate deduction and reconciliation of garnished wages.
Compliance Management :
- Stay up-to-date on federal, state, and local laws governing wage garnishments.
- Ensure all garnishment processes adhere to legal requirements and company policies.
- Respond to inquiries from employees, courts, and government agencies regarding garnishments.
- Maintain accurate records of garnishment orders, payments, and correspondence.
Communication and Collaboration :
- Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, including HR, payroll, and finance departments.
- Collaborate with legal counsel as needed to address complex garnishment issues.
- Serve as a point of contact for external parties, such as garnishing agencies and creditors.
Continuous Improvement :
- Identify opportunities to streamline garnishment processes and improve efficiency.
- Implement best practices to minimize errors and reduce compliance risks.
- Participate in training sessions to enhance knowledge of garnishment laws and procedures.
ESSENTIAL REQUIRED SKILLS OF THE JOB :
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or related field preferred.
- Previous experience in payroll administration, accounting, or legal compliance strongly preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of federal and state laws governing wage garnishments, including but not limited to the Consumer Credit Protection Act (CCPA), Title III, and state-specific regulations.
- Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex legal documents.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Discretion and integrity when handling sensitive employee information.
WORK ENVIRONMENT :
- This position typically operates in an office environment.
- Regular hours, Monday to Friday, with occasional overtime during peak periods.
- May require occasional interaction with external parties, such as legal counsel, government agencies, and garnishing agencies.
- Hybrid work schedules (four days in the office 1 day work from home after probationary period)
