Talascend is seeking a professional, skilled individual for our Safety Engineer IV position located in Huntsville, AL.
JOB DESCRIPTION :
- Performs engineering studies to determine the best, most safe systems and equipment considering all the issues related to personnel and facility safety.
- May develop, implement and monitor company safety programs and policies.
- Ensures compliance with government health and safety regulations.
- Conducts employee training in emergency response, life safety, industrial hygiene, and chemical and fire hazards. Performs observations, audits, accident investigations, records data, and prepares recommendations.
- Conducts safety surveys and recommends corrective action where occupational hazards exist. (It should be understood that this is not intended to be a detailed nor comprehensive description of any individual employee's job content.
- Managers set the specific duties and responsibilities for each employee).
SCOPE :
- Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and process to meet goals outlines.
- Provides direction to employees according to established policies and management guidance.
- Work is reviewed by management to measure meeting objectives.
- Administers company policies that directly affect subordinate employees.
- Recommends changes to unit or sub-unit policies.

- Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires review of identifiable factors.
- Exercises judgment within defined procedure and policies to determine appropriate action.
- Acts as advisor to unit or sub-unit, becomes actively involved as required to meet schedules or resolve problems.

- Contributes to the development of organization's goals and objectives.
- Decisions and achievements may have direct effect on project schedule.
LIAISON :
Frequently interacts with subordinate supervisors, outside customers, and functional peer groups at management levels.
Interaction normally requires the ability to gain cooperation of others conducting presentations of technical information concerning specific projects / schedules, etc.
FREEDOM TO ACT :
- Plans and conducts work using independent judgment in evaluating, selecting and adapting standard scientific and engineering practice.
- May provide guidance to less experienced engineering personnel.
- Reviews procedures for compliance with environmental regulations.
LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT : KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS AND ABILITY :
Has general mastery of the job. May serve in a lead role and train others.
TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific or equivalent discipline and 7+ years of related experience.
