Position : Banquet Captain
Department : Food and Beverage
Job Summary : Leads banquet service personnel for the banquet manager and sales coordinator. Ensures that guests receive the highest possible standard in guest service.
Duties and Responsibilities (specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to) :
- Obtains copies of banquet event orders containing the menus and terms of service for each event.
- Reviews banquet event order to learn food and beverage menu items to be served.
- Checks that special menu items have been prepared.
- Learns the names of banquet staff on the team.
- Assigns decision making and work functions in an appropriate manner to maximize effectiveness; communicates clearly the parameters of the delegated responsibility and required actions, constraints or deadlines.
- Ensures that team members are knowledgeable about policies, procedures, and banquet food and beverage menu items.
- Inspects grooming and attire of team members and takes corrective action, if necessary; serves as role model with own personal appearance.
- Coordinates with Housekeeping staff to ensure the function and pre-function spaces are maintained and in excellent condition.
- Ensures that the banquet room is set up in conformance with event order specifications and established standards.
- Checks tables for proper setup, including table linens of appropriate size and color for the event as well as in good condition.
- Checks side stations to ensure they are neat, clean, and fully equipped.
- Ensures that the banquet service team has completed all assigned pre-service responsibilities.
- Offers warm and sincere welcome / farewell to guests using a guest's name, when possible, and making good eye contact.
- Maintains constant contact with on-site host to ensure that everything runs seamlessly during an event.
- Resolves guest complaints in a diplomatic and level headed manner quickly, professionally, and effectively.
- Works the floor at events and fills in when and where needed, such as server or bartender.
- Complies with state alcohol server requirements.
- Enforces health and safety standards rigorously; ensures work related injuries or incidents are reported to Security but also maintains own accurate and timely records for purposes of assessing training needs and taking corrective action.
- Maintains detailed reports on each event for management.
- Maintains appropriate staffing levels; schedules staff to ensure an adequate number are available to serve each event.
- Supervises and develops direct reports by mentoring, coaching, and providing performance feedback.
- Assists with interviews, recommending hires, writing and issuing performance appraisals, resolving problems, providing open communication, and recommending corrective action and / or termination, when appropriate.
- Conducts staff training programs; ensures all team members receive on-going training.
- Develops a 'team" atmosphere with team members and takes a pro-active leadership role.
- Confers with supervisor on a regular basis to review achievements and discuss needed changes in goals or objectives.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
- Knowledge of event standards, practices, and procedures.
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in resource allocation, leadership techniques, and coordination of people.
- Knowledge of supervisory principles and procedures.
- Knowledge of human resources principles, practices, and procedures.
- Knowledge of modern filing and recordkeeping practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations as well as Casino Del Sol Resort's internal controls, policies, and procedures.
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software, especially word processing and spreadsheet applications.
- Organizational, planning, and time management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Skill in working courteously with the public as well as developing and maintaining strong working relationships.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment with minimal supervision.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment
- Ability to perform mathematical computations pertaining to the position.
- Ability to inspire other team members to provide the highest levels of guest service.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment that may be stressful at times.
- Ability to stoop, bend, walk, reach objects above shoulder height, and use hands.

Minimum Qualifications :
- High School or General Equivalency Diploma AND three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in professional culinary operations, including one (1) year as banquet captain at a comparably sized hospitality environment OR any combination of academic education, professional training, or work experience.
