Job Summary
The Network Field Services Lead will orchestrate and elevate the capabilities of a team of Field Technicians, who are pivotal in managing the logistics, installation, enhancement, and resolution of issues pertaining to both wired and wireless network infrastructures across the university campus.
This encompasses a broad spectrum of network assets including, but not limited to, switches, routers, wireless access points, and structured cabling systems.
In this strategic role, the Lead will engage in high-level collaborations with customers, internal staff, vendors, and key stakeholders to meticulously evaluate, analyze, and address hardware and software network inquiries and challenges.
A critical aspect of this position involves ensuring that the network field team consistently adheres to established service level agreements and maintains operational excellence.
During network crises, the Lead is expected to act swiftly and decisively to mitigate disruptions and minimize downtime, thereby safeguarding the continuity of campus operations.
Furthermore, the Lead will maintain robust communication channels with other IT divisions, delivering comprehensive reports on network performance metrics and incident management, and will supervise the development and delivery of customer training programs to enhance user engagement and system proficiency.
The Network Field Services Lead will positively impact UCSF's operations and culture by ensuring UCSF's IT infrastructure is operable, secure, efficient, and effective in service of the university's academic mission.
This team member will advance the University's mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across faculty, staff, and students.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of experience / training in one or more of the following fields : computer science, engineering, computer information systems, etc.
- 3 to 5+ years of expert experience working in one or more of the following fields : network services, information technology or network operations.
- Significant experience in the installation, configuration, monitoring, life cycle management, troubleshooting, and maintenance of a variety of network systems, parts and accessories.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and coordinate the installation, maintenance, and repair of network equipment.
- Significant knowledge of wired and wireless communications networks. Advanced knowledge of LAN / WAN, network systems, and technologies such as VLAN, DHCP, VoIP, Spanning Tree Protocol, fiber optics cabling / transceivers, and wireless.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex network issues.
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and is able to communicate work assignments to small teams.
- Experienced with project management and is able to delegate responsibility, track project progress, and manage daily work expectations.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including mentorship, negotiation, and change management.
- Demonstrated experience providing inclusive leadership of others, cultivating an inclusive environment that values equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in complex higher education environments, serving academic, medical, and research and administrative functions of a large public university.
License / Certification
- Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) Installer
- CompTIA Network+
- Cisco Certified Technician (CCT)
