Job Description
ASU Gammage is seeking innovative and creative part-time Teaching Artists to help launch an afterschool elementary musical theatre program and provide professional development to teachers at Title I schools.
The work location for this position is at one elementary school location in the Phoenix area and occasional meetings on the Tempe campus.
Disney Musicals in Schools is a free after-school program offered to a limited number of Title I elementary schools. Through the 17-week program.
Disney Musicals in Schools Teaching Artists guide school team of teachers through the process of mounting a musical at their school.
The goal is to provide the training necessary for teachers and schools to be able to continue a theatre program for years to come.
On February 27, , the DMIS schools perform on the ASU Gammage stage in the Student Share Celebration. Teaching Artists will be employees of ASU Gammage not of the Walt Disney Company.

Essential Duties
- Attend DMIS Orientation and Teaching Artist Aide Training
- Lead a 90-minute rehearsal at an assigned metro Phoenix school once per week for 17 weeks
- Adequately prepare for each production meeting / rehearsal in accordance with DMIS expectations and appropriately adapt lessons to your assigned schools needs
- Submit weekly reports to the DMIS Program Coordinator
- Assist with assigned schools final performance in February or March .
- Participate in Student Share showcase on February 27,
Mandatory Dates :
- DMIS Orientation and Teaching Artist All-Day Training from September 6-7,
- Weekly commitment one afternoon a week (M-Th) at partner school from September -March
- Disney Musicals in Schools Student Share at ASU Gammage on February 27, .
Minimum Qualifications
One year instructional aide or related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and / or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications
- Professional experience in musical theatre, including choreography, directing, performance, and / or music direction
- Experience teaching students in class or camp settings (musical theatre / music)
- Experience participating or working on a play or musical with students
- Evidence of leadership or group management skills
- Collaborative skills and ability to thrive in a group work setting
- Experience in using time-management skills; be punctual and reliable
- Ability to demonstrate respect for all students, teachers, teaching artists, and administrators participating in the program, and offer a superior level of professionalism, customer service, and positivity
- Evidence of a valid US Class D drivers license with reliable transportation to and from partner schools located in the metro Phoenix area
- Ability to obtain, at our expense, a fingerprint clearance card
Working Environment

- Proficient in public speaking.
- Ability to use effective written and oral communication skills.
- Drive on university business and possess a valid US driver license upon employment.
