Facilities Safety, & Security Specialist
POSITION SUMMARY :
Working in the Facilities team, acts as the subject matter expert in safety and security for Akin sites throughout the state of Washington.
Is responsible for developing and executing safety and security procedures and policies. Responsible for oversight of safety practices, unsafe environmental factors, emergency and evacuation procedures, comprehensive health and safety inspections, and reducing physical risks and workplace violence.
Leads the Health and Safety Committee and will partner closely with Compliance, Team Leaders and HR. Has access to protected healthcare information (PHI) or confidential identifiable information (CII), both paper and electronic, as necessary, to perform related job duties and responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Evaluates current practices and assesses needs. Plans, develops, implements, monitors, and communicates a comprehensive program for ensuring the safety and security of all Akin facilities, including locations that are not owned / leased or controlled / operated by the organization throughout Washington State
- Develops, oversees, implements, and analyzes improvement plans related to internal health and safety inspections
- Creates process to review, analyze, report, and develop improvement plans related to safety and security incidents
- Identifies safety and security risk exposure areas. Develops and implements responses and solutions to reduce risks and exposures that are culturally aware, and trauma-informed
- Develops detailed plan for prioritization and implementation of agency wide-building security programs, oversees risk and vulnerability assessments, threat assessments, crisis response plans and implementation, and building alarm systems
- Acts as the primary point of contact for all safety and security programs and policies between staff, contractors, and agency leadership
- Develops and implements emergency response and preparedness, evacuation drills, CPR, First Aid / AED and safety training plans and materials for offices statewide
- Schedules, coordinates and tracks training and meetings to ensure staff understands best practices for safe, secure facilities
- Responds effectively and appropriately in emergencies
- Aligns training and strategy with the overall Akin culture and programs
- Develops, updates and maintains corporate safety and security policies, handbooks, and plans
- Schedules and leads all health and safety committee meetings and maintains documentation
- Assures compliance with OSHA, WISHA, WAC regulations, fire protection codes, and insurance provider requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
- Prior experience overseeing safety and security in a non-profit or community-based organization, preferably in an early learning setting
- Knowledge of current best practices related to security management and threat assessment involving complex, multi-site organizations
- Knowledge of laws and regulations governing health and safety, including OSHA, WISHA, WAC, HAZMAT, and Disaster Preparedness
- Knowledge of accident and injury prevention, reduction, and mitigation techniques and procedures
- Ability to compile, analyze, utilize, and present data and statistics on safety and security issues in relatable and understandable formats
- Ability to understand and reflect Akin’s organizational culture to develop programs that effectively support statewide locations
- Working knowledge of requirements and best practices of CARE, Office of Head Start, ECEAP, and the Department of Health
- Ability to listen effectively to a variety of stakeholders and develop responsive solutions to issues and problems while building consensus and resolving conflicts and problems
- Uses good judgment and remains calm in emotionally charged situations
WORKING ENVIRONMENT :

WORKING REMOTELY :
Working remotely is a benefit of Akin’s flexible workplace, but remote work cannot be offered for all positions. Some positions require daily presence in the office.
Remote work arrangements may be adjusted or rescinded based upon business needs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, bend, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard;
occasionally to reach, stoop and kneel

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
- 3 - 5 years’ experience overseeing safety and security in a non-profit or community-based organization, preferably in an early learning setting
- Demonstrated knowledge of current best practices related to security management and threat assessment involving complex, multi-site organizations
- Demonstrated knowledge of laws and regulations governing health and safety, including OSHA, WISHA, WAC, HAZMAT, and Disaster Preparedness
- Demonstrated knowledge of accident and injury prevention, reduction, and mitigation techniques and procedures
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record; ability to travel between facilities
- Successful completion of a drivers check if position requires driving on a regular basis (at least three times per week) or drives clients.
Must not have more than two driving incidents within the last three years
SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS :
The salary range for this position is $73,551 - $105,864. The starting salary range for this position is $73,551 - $81,630DOE for external candidates.
Full-time employees will also receive 10 days of vacation leave each year, three Employee Appreciation Day each year, and will accrue one sick day per month (pro-rated for part-time employees).
