The IP Strategist demonstrates leadership in delivering & communicating business goals / programs / processes for a technical area or business segment in strategic IP matters.

The applicant has the experience and expertise to develop IP strategy solutions to strengthen IP positions for the future of flight at GE Aerospace.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assigned area for the present role will be combustion and fuel systems, though the scope may grow over time to include further mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, and / or software-based specialties.
  • Work with assigned technical area or business segment to develop strategic IP - including trade secrets & patent applications.

Role includes management of organic IP growth in the technical area or business segments, as well as facilitating IP harvesting sessions with cognizant subject matter experts to generate impactful IP that protects GE Aerospace freedom to practice and / or provides blocking / licensing opportunities.

  • Understand IP portfolio of assigned area to inform subject matter experts on the patentability, strength of IP portfolio, assertion & licensing opportunities, maintenance actions, etc.
  • Conduct freedom-to-practice (FTP) analyses on new technologies within assigned area.
  • Assure proper documentation of technical and / or IP data generated for assigned projects and / or tasks consistent with engineering / legal policies and procedures.
  • The base pay range for this position is $91,700 to 152,900 USD Annual The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, software, electronics, science, or materials
  • 4+ years of IP experience
  • 4+ years of aerospace and / or automotive experience

Desired Characteristics

  • Masters' degree in mechanical engineering or chemical engineering
  • Established project management, including ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs
  • Strong leadership skills, including ability to lead discussions and projects involving senior attorneys and engineers
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve problems
  • Strong technical aptitude related to components and systems of increasing complexity
