Job Description

This Pediatric Registered Nurse position will be working full time in the Pediatric ICU (PICU) at Primary Children's Hospital, a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center, located in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Primary Children’s Hospital is a Magnet Recognized facility.

We are a fast-paced, highly specialized 28 bed PICU we are the only Pediatric Level I Trauma Center in the surrounding area and serve patients from the Intermountain region including Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Nevada, Idaho, Colorado and beyond.

The PICUprovides an excellent opportunity to work autonomously, increase your education, broaden your skill set, and work hand in hand with a highly recognized team of Physicians, LIPs, Nurses, Respiratory Therapists and Critical Care Techs - all dedicated to care for our critically ill infants, children, and teens.

Per reporting data, our patients have some of the highest acuity of all reporting centers. Because of this acuity, our staffing ratio is 1 nurse for every patients.

We pride ourselves on our education system, and it is second to none. It takes anywhere from 3 to 5 years to complete. It involves didactic learning, projects, research, as well as oral and written testing.

Topics include Advanced Neurotrauma, Respiratory, Cardiovascular, and Metabolic care.

Common Diagnoses treated are :

Multiple Trauma

Complex Surgeries

Pre and Post Solid Organ Transplants

Respiratory Failure (Jet, Oscillator, VDR)

Metabolic Disorders

Multi-Organ System Failure

Sepsis

Extra-Corporeal Membranous Oxygenation (VA and VV ECMO)

Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)

This position is for a September 3rd start date

Hours : Full Time - 36 hours per week

Minimum Qualifications

Current RN License in state of practice.

and -

BLS Certification for Healthcare Providers.

and -

Current PALS Certification

and -

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

and -

RNs with less than 12 months of working experience as an RN prior to joining Intermountain must obtain their BSN within five years of their start date.

and -

RNs hired or promoted into this role need to have or obtain their BSN within three years of hire or promotion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
  • 1 year of more of PICU nursing experience.
  • Pediatric Hospital RN experience.
  • Critical Care RN experience.

Physical Requirements : PCH only

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

and -

Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

and -

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

and -

Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment.

Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

and -

Need to walk and assist with transporting / ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing / pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items.

Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).

and -
