Advanced Practice Provider, Hematology

The Division of Hematology & Medical Oncology in the Department of Medicine and the UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center at the Joe R.

Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine is hiring for an Advanced Practice Provider faculty position in Hematology.

The successful candidates would join a thriving multidisciplinary hematology practice and be able to leverage world class scientific collaborations and robust infrastructure for investigator initiated and population based clinical trials.

We expect that this individual will hold an academic appointment in the Department of Medicine. She / he will report to the Chief of Hematology & Medical Oncology and be expected to have administrative, clinical, teaching, and research responsibilities in the Mays Cancer Center, one of the nation's NCI Designated Cancer Centers with over a year tradition of excellence in development of new cancer therapies, understanding cancer biology, and decreasing the burden of Cancer in San Antonio and South Texas.

Candidates should hold a PA, or NP license with experience in Hematology / Oncology practice preferred, however we would be willing to train the right motivated individual.

Specific expectations :

  • Be able to follow and care for in-patients with hematologic disorders within a consult service team.
  • Be able to care for and manage chemotherapeutic toxicities in an out-patient setting.
  • Be a resource to the nursing staff and be able to trouble shoot issues in an outpatient infusion unit.
  • Be able to conduct follow up and surveillance visits in the hematology clinic.
  • Be able to independently perform the following procedures : bone marrow aspirations and biopsies, lumbar puncture and administration of intrathecal chemotherapy, access Ommaya reservoirs to administer intrathecal chemotherapy.
  • Be able to communicate effectively and collaborate with other consult services and health care professionals.
  • Be a resource and support to Graduate medical education trainees in a supervised teaching environment
  • Be abreast of current trails for the selected patient population and be able to identify patients for specific clinical trials
  • Perform and manage quality improvement projects.

Additional Information Benefits Overview

UT Health San Antonio offers an excellent benefits package for its employees. Employees who work at least hours a week, with an appointment of at least months, are eligible for benefits.

Medical- UT SELECT Medical insurance is offered free for employees and administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas.

Retirement- Employees are eligible for either the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) or the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP). TRS is a defined benefit retirement plan which UT Health matches employee contributions.

ORP is for eligible faculty staff employees. Voluntary retirement programs are also available to invest before- or after-tax dollars with the choice of five quality retirement plan providers.

Time Off- A generous leave program offers multiple paid leave options :

Front-loaded Paid Time Off : to hours ( to days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year.

PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire.

Extended Illness Bank : hours ( day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken.

Paid Family Leave : Up to hours ( weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after months of consecutive employment.

Holidays : set paid holidays each year plus three floating holidays, which can be used anytime during the fiscal year.

FSAs- Employees can enroll in flexible spending accounts (FSAs) to set aside money from earnings before taxes for qualifying dependent day care expenses or out-of-pocket health care expenses.
