Job Summary
The Orthoptist analyzes and treats patients with dysfunctions of binocularity and / or ocular motility. Examines patients to diagnose and treat abnormal eye motor movements, partial vision, and determination of presence of fusion.
Triages patients in the absence of the ophthalmologist and organizes vision screening in community schools.
Pay Range
Minimum $38.72 Midpoint $51.30 Maximum $63.88
Experience
Required : Minimum two (2) years of experience working as an Orthoptist.
Education
- Required : Bachelor’s degree in related field.
- Preferred : Bachelor's Degree and successful completion of a two year, nationally recognized accredited Orthoptic Program.
Training
Required : Knowledge of medical terminology, infection control techniques, and age-related acuity levels. Must be competent in collecting and interpreting data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's age specific needs.

- Able to evaluate and document the patient / family response to care. Ability to set goals and judge results in accordance with the highest standards and respect;

Excellent organization skills; excellent critical thinking, judgment, and problem-solving skills.
Licensure
Required : Basic Life Support (BLS).
Work Environments - Functional Demand :
Medium - High energy level Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Push / pull + / - 150-200 lbs. (Patients on bed, stretcher) Lateral transfer 150-200 lbs. (ie. Patient) .
