Position Summary :
Under the general supervision of the dentist on site and the Chief Dental Officer, the hygienist will provide periodontal treatment including but not limited to scaling and root planning, prophylaxis, sealant placement, fluoride placement, education, and other duties under current dental license and state guidelines.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Provides preventive, therapeutic, and educational methods for control of oral disease to children and adults in the clinic allowed by state guidelines.
- Gathers and assembles pertinent patient data to assist dentist in diagnosis and treatment. Such information will include, but is not limited to medical or dental histories, x-ray surveys, impressions and charting of oral examinations.
- Maintains instruments, trays, and other dental equipment in a sterile environment, which includes sterilization, equipment maintenance following clinic policies / procedures and OSHA, CDC, and ADA standards.
- Log entries in the digital dental record in the EDR software and maintain proper patient records following state guidelines and HIPPA standards.
- Provide community oral health outreach and participate in portable dentistry program if needed.
- Act as a back-up dental assistant as needed.
- Participates in QAI activities as assigned by the CDO.
- To perform other related duties as assigned by the dentist / CDO.
Qualifications :
1. Licensed Dental Hygienist in the State of Illinois in good standing.
2. Certified to administer local anesthetics.
3. Current CPR certification.
Knowledqe / SkiIls :
- Ability to set up and prepare dental equipment and instrumentation in accordance with established regulations and guidelines.
- Ability to provide hygiene care to patients of all ages and backgrounds according to the dentists’ prescribed treatment recommendations.
- Ability to follow the dental office infection control plan to meet OSHA, CDC, ADA standards.
- Is a team player.
- Accepts and offers guidance and supervision as appropriate.
- Attends and participates in staff meetings to review team progress in meeting financial and productivity goals for the dental program.
