Position Summary
Functions in a management position, accountable for the day-to-day responsibilities including planning, organizing, and leading the Health Information Management and Coding departments within Med Center Health.
This position leads functions including record control and retention, hospital coding, ambulatory coding, transcription, cancer registry, and release of information.
Key decision maker within the framework of the organization’s philosophies, policies, and procedures for the assigned areas.
Establishes and maintains a budget for each department and works to optimize efficiency and effectiveness. Serves as a key leader in the middle revenue cycle and works to increase the efficiency of the overall revenue cycle.
- Minimum Qualifications
- Work Experience
- Four years of responsibility in Health Information Management experience required with focused skills and expertise in the area of management as either the Director or Assistant Director.
- Previous survey experience preferred.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience required.
- Master’s degree preferred.
Certifications / Licensure
- Certification credential as either R.H.I.A. or R.H.I.T required.

- Responsible for overall strategy of HIM services across the multi-facility healthcare system to ensure compliance with state, federal, and other regulatory or accreditation requirements.
- Evaluates processes and technology opportunities for efficiency across HIM and Coding applications.
- Responsible for compiling and reporting financial and statistical information to internal partners and Accounting and ensuring that productivity metrics for the departments are being upheld.
- Serves as the liaison and escalation point for department managers, physicians, and the CMO for HIM / Coding functions to facilitate a team approach to patient care.
- Advises the Vice President on issues pertaining to regulatory or The Joint Commission survey readiness within Med Center Health and helps maintain a constant state of survey readiness.
- Works with physicians and providers to improve the quality of documentation, ensure documentation is completed in an accurate and timely manner, and addresses issues with non-compliance with Med-Staff bylaws and other policies.
- Maintains compliance with our cancer accreditation and leads cancer registry and abstractors in accordance with standards set by the Kentucky Cancer Registry and the American College of Surgeons.
