Job Summary / Basic Function :

The Motion Pictures Program at Wright State is a Nationally Recognized program which draws students from across the Unites States.

It is one of the oldest and most established programs housed within the State of Ohio. Our students’ narrative and documentary films have won national and international recognition and awards at major festivals and competitions including Sundance and the Student Emmys;

and our robust community of faculty and alums includes Oscar, Emmy, and Sundance winners.

Full-time Instructor position beginning Fall 2024 in Motion Picture Production at the Tom Hanks Center for Motion Pictures.

The person in this position will teach advanced cinematography and post-production subjects, beginning and intermediate motion picture production courses, and mentor and support student projects in production.

As a production faculty member within a program with an expansive film history and theory curriculum, candidates are expected to be able to connect their creative practice to larger movements and traditions in various film cultures. Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree in a related field and equivalent professional work experience of at least five years (such as industry / on-set experience in film and / or television production / post-production leadership roles) or MFA or PhD in motion picture production or related field.
• A record of creative, scholarly, or professional accomplishments (such as film festival screenings, awards, publications, and honors), evidence of successful pre-professional and / or university-level teaching (such as faculty appointments, leading professional workshops or Master Classes, syllabi, student evaluations, and / or teaching philosophy statement).
• A record of creative work that supports the curricular goals of mentoring students making professional-quality short fiction and / or non-fiction films, and the ability to create a dynamic learning environment that values instructor / student interaction.
• The ability to design and teach foundational production classes in both fiction and non-fiction storytelling, as well as specialized, advanced classes and workshops in a combination of any of the following sub-specialties : cinematography, lighting, sound, set operations, safety, and post-production technology / workflow.
• The ability to teach general courses in film history and / or film theory.
• A strong background in student-centered approaches to teaching including experience in and / or commitment to working with students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles, and / or first-generation, BIPOC, queer-identifying and / or disabled university / college students.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of Non-Linear Video Editing (NLVE) Software (Adobe Premiere, AfterEffects, and Photoshop required; Avid preferred).
• Knowledge of Non-Linear Audio Editing (NLAE) Software (Adobe Audition required, ProTools preferred).
• Knowledge of audio recording equipment and techniques (Zoom recorders, lavalier and boom mics, mixing board, audio booth equipment).
• Proficiency with cinema cameras (Red Komodo, Cannon 5D Mark 4, Canon C100, Arri SR2, Bolex).
• Proficiency with cinema lighting equipment and techniques.
• Proficiency with Cinematographer and Assistant Camera practices and workflow (ShotDeck, camera daily paperwork, gear tests, equipment check-out processes, etc.).
• Knowledge of post-production practices and workflow (DaVinci Resolve Studio preferred).
