Entry-Level CEI Inspector

S&ME is looking for an eager and dedicated full-time CEI Inspector to join our Transportation team in Asheville, North Carolina .
About You :
As an entry-level CEI Inspector , you will work with other technicians and perform crucial inspection and materials sampling and testing on roadways, bridges, greenways, airports, ports, and rail transportation projects.
- Inspection and Oversight : Assist in inspections of contractor operations (e.g., earthmoving, paving, bridge construction) for compliance with plans and permits.
- Documentation : Prepare material reports, daily diaries, and field books for payment documentation and maintain detailed records.
- Technical Tasks : Perform materials sampling / testing, verify line / grade with survey equipment, and conduct calculations.
- Compliance : Conduct DBE and EEO compliance surveys and inspect erosion control devices for environmental regulation adherence.
- Communication : Coordinate with third-party construction personnel and collaborate with higher-level staff for project reviews.
CEI Inspectors are subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions and to various types of weather and field conditions, including heights, uneven terrain, highway traffic, hazards of highway construction sites, and heavy equipment, and may travel / work extended hours, weekends, and / or holidays.
We offer competitive pay based on experience, with additional incentives for applicable certifications.
About You :
- You have one (1) of the following :
- High school diploma / GED and 0-2 years of highway-related construction or inspection experience
- 2-year technical degree or higher in Civil Engineering Technology or Surveying Technology
- You have effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
- You have effective math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
- You can proficiently complete data entry into multiple software applications on a smart device, using Microsoft Office and email
- You have at least one (1) active industry certification, a plus :
- American Concrete Institute (ACI) : Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician
- International Code Council (ICC) : Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils)
- DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Conventional Density, Asphalt, and Concrete
Are You Willing and Able to :
Perform the physical demands of the position with the use of company-provide Personal Protective Equipment such as :
- Working outdoors in varying weather conditions outside normal business hours, as needed
- Walking over rough and uneven terrain, maneuvering field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow
- Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field / laboratory samples and equipment)
- Traveling out-of-town and possibly overnight for assignments as needed
