Overview

MasTec Civil is currently hiring Crane Operators to join our team in Miami, FL.

The ideal candidate will have experience operating an All Terrain Hydraulic Crane up to 160 tons and / or experience operating a Crawler / Lattice Boom Crane up to 300 tons.

The Crane Operator is skilled craft position that performs on heavy construction projects within any combination of the duties described more fully below.

A Crane Operator typically performs a wide variety of tasks, transferring from one task to another as the workflow dictates.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

Operates under Lift Director supervision and works with crews on various types of cranes : All Terrain, Rough Terrain, Mobile Crawlers, Hydraulic Cranes, and Boom Trucks;

associated with the heavy / civil, roadway and bridge construction industry that includes, but not limited to; pile driving, beam erection, demolition, concrete construction, steel erection, and / or other heavy construction lifting activities.

  • Must be able to maintain compliance responsibilities set forth in the OSHA standard Subpart CC, Cranes and Derricks in Construction (29 CFR 1926.1400 1442).
  • Must be able to follow instructions correctly, be able to communicate and respond accordingly to radio commands and / or with the ASME B30.

5 Standard Hand Signals for Mobile Crane Operations regarding lift communications and / or lift instructions.

  • Inspect machines and equipment daily, perform routine maintenance procedures and minor repairs as required and initiate additional repair requests from mechanics when necessary
  • Perform general labor duties as needed.
  • Maintain visual and radio contact with ground operators according to best practices and site safety regulations, and respond to questions and instructions clearly and quickly
  • Provide additional support to other crane operators as necessary, including working overtime to complete tasks, operating several types of equipment and training, or monitoring junior operators.
  • Must maintain a current Load Chart and Operations Manual within the crane cab at all times and be able to demonstrate Load Chart proficiency on various crane configurations and load chart usage, all in the language of the manufacturer’s instruction manual.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency with the set up and operation of the crane’s computer in correct configuration and work within limitations.
  • Must be able to participate and perform lifting load planning; and execute the approved Lift Plan accordingly.
  • Must be able to inspect and be responsible for correct selection of rated rigging (slings, cables, straps, blocks, hooks, shackles, and the crane appurtenances prior to lifting operations with assurances that all lifts are within load limits of equipment and correctly rigged.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in handling, pre-start inspections, post-start inspections, maneuvering skills, shut down and securing procedures.
  • Must be able to work various shifts in a team environment. Team activities include responsibility and accountability for the day-to-day function of the team as well as with senior management who are involved running the project.
  • Must perform daily safety and operational inspection crane. Must perform administrative paperwork including the preparation and submittal of daily crane inspection reports as per internal protocols and industry requirements.

Inspections will be performed per documented checklist, determine if any parts are malfunctioning, report any deficiencies, and perform minor repairs to crane as needed.

Copies of inspections shall be kept in a binder in the crane.

  • Must possess the ability to operate various mobile cranes safely with a minimum of supervision while being able to handle multiple tasks.
  • Must possess a thorough understanding of crane operation characteristics, controls, emergency skills, response to fire, power line contact, tipping, malfunction characteristics and performance questions about the specific crane types in use.
  • The Crane Operator will be responsible for all safety aspects of operating the equipment.
  • The Crane Operator must be able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely.
  • Must be willing to assist in other duties as required while not operating a crane.
  • Knowledge to inspect cranes and recommend appropriate actions to maintain the crane in good working order.
  • Knowledge and understanding of OSHA requirements in connection with crane operation including daily inspection log, focus on crane operation, and being able to safely hoist, move and place materials and objects using appropriate attachments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and task-oriented.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :

  • High School Diploma or general education degree
  • 5+ years’ experience lifting and placing concrete by bucket, prefabricated bridge beams, precast bridge deck panels, rebar, concrete pipe as well as metal forming components.
  • NCCCO or NCCER certification.
