Senior Corporate Counsel

Supports the General Counsel within the Legal group. Renders legal advice regarding liability, risk and other matters, which have or may have a significant impact on business activities and operations.
This position requires design and construction industry experience, both public sector (federal / state / local) and private sector, general practice experience.
In-house practice requires comfort handling a wide range of legal matters, as the need arises. The person in this position must be a capable researcher, a risk manager, a business enabler, an effective negotiator, a superior listener, able to adapt to others styles and personalities, able to engender goodwill, able to bring calm, able to make things understandable, able to win over others in an agreeable manner, able to deliver good results consistently.
This position operates under general direction of General Counsel.

Responsibilities
- Supports General Counsel on a variety of matters.
- Provides legal services for federal, state, local and commercial sector projects involving construction, design and professional services.
- Handles claims, collections, construction, professional practice, insurance, surety, compliance, privacy, intellectual property, cybersecurity, and other matters.
- Manages outside legal counsel for litigation and other matters.
- Generates legal documents, memoranda, outlines, checklists, forms, policies, standards, processes, procedures, and the like, as needed.
- Leverages resources from professional associations and societies, such as Association of Corporate Counsel, ABA Forum on Construction Law, ACEC Legal Counsel Forum, IRMI, and so forth.
- Provides clear actionable legal advice commensurate with the circumstances.
- Negotiates complex matters, professionally and effectively.
- Formulates and executes legal strategies and tactics.
- Guides corporate services groups in developing legal and risk solutions.
Required Skills & Required Experience
- 15-20+ years of relevant experience in a law firm or corporate setting.
- Bar member, in good standing, in one state, with bar membership in Virginia, New York, California, or Florida, preferred.
- Requires minimal supervision to handle responsibilities.
- Required to be physically present in Dewberry's Fairfax, Virginia headquarters offices.
- Experience with architecture, engineering, and other design professions.
- Experience with construction industry.
- Experience with federal government contracting and compliance.
- Experience with employment and labor law applicable to Dewberry.
- Experience with privacy and cybersecurity preferred.
- Experience working in both law firm and in-house settings preferred.
- Experienced litigation manager.
