Education Benefit Reviewer
Job Summary :
The Education Benefit Reviewer serves in a consultive / supportive role with staff, students, parents and representatives from local districts and community agencies.
Responsible for coordination and capacity building of general education and special education staff through guidance, training, and support, specific to Individual Education Plan (IEP) and 504 Plan development.
This position is of limited duration (approximately 5 years) and state funded.
Essential Duties (May include, but not limited to) :
- Provides best practices for the design and implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and 504 Plans
- Provides consultation to classroom staff in areas such as instructional methods, evaluation, effective time management and problem solving / conflict management.
- Assists in the coordination of program / curriculum design, development, and implementation.
- Assists in the coordination of assigned student activities.
- Prepares reports to facilitate, document, or evaluate programs and assigned duties.
- Assists in staff development activities related to assigned duties.
- Remains up to date on current methodologies and strategies for instructional programs for students with autism.
- Works with community agencies, including the Neurodevelopmental Center of Excellence (NCE) to coordinate the evaluations for students suspected of having a disability.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates applications of technology for instructional programs.
- Consistently models Win-Win leadership.
Other Duties :
- May serve as a resource for the development of department budget and district plan goals related to the assigned area.
- May serve as a resource person to local school district school improvement teams related to the assigned area of responsibility
- Represents the district on various community agencies and professional organizations as appropriate to the assigned area.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications : Education :
Education :
Master’s degree required. Valid Michigan teacher’s certificate required with a special education endorsement. Eligible for full approval as a teacher consultant required.
Preference in hiring will be given to candidate with approval as a Special Education Supervisor or Director of Special Education in the state of Michigan.
Experience :
Minimum of three years of successful classroom teaching experience.
Skills / Other :
Ability to assist staff with the implementation of their job responsibilities and demonstrated skills in team planning. Ability to consult with administration regarding the individualized needs of students with autism.
Excellent written and oral communication skills. Works successfully as a member of the team. Ability to work a flexible workday and work week.
- Ability to travel to and from the intermediate school district to constituent districts as needed. Demonstrated physical stamina necessary for assisting with lifting and moving students up to 26 years of age;
- repetitive stooping, squatting, bending, lifting, walking, kneeling, and reaching while maintaining personal balance and stability;
implementing behavior intervention plans and performing the essential job duties. Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and professionalism at all times.
Ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions in accordance with board policies and established administrative guidelines.
