TITLE : NursingProfessionalDevelopment (NPD) Specialist
JOB OVERVIEW : Develops and implementsprofessional development programs for clinical staff consistent with Valley Medical Center's mission, vision, values, and
goals. Supports workforce planning efforts to establish effective pathways
for entering the healthcare profession, ongoing career development, and
succession planning.
DEPARTMENT : Patient Care Services
WORK HOURS : Typically four 10 hour shifts between 0700-1900 or variable to meet department and organizational needs (evening or weekend hours required occasionally).
REPORTS TO : Director of Professional Development and Nursing Education
PREREQUISITES :
Graduate degree in nursing, preferably with a focus in Nursing Education.
Unrestricted / active RN licensed to practice in WA State.
Certification in Nursing Professional Development strongly desired.
Minimum of (3) three years' clinical nursing experience.
Minimum one (1) year of experience coordinating or managing education program / curriculum design, development, implementation, and evaluation / assessment.
Evidence of excellent communication skills.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Experience in professional development or nursing academic education.
Knowledge of adult learning principles, curriculum design, and change management processes.
Experience in a nursing leadership role.
Able to manage multiple demands and competing priorities.
Ability to collaborate and work in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Essential Responsibilities and Competencies :
Learning Facilitator Role
Conducts learning needs assessments and develops education plans using nursing professional development standards of practice.
Evaluates individual learning activities and overall program outcomes. Reports findings on a regular basis to PDE Director.
Reports finding to nursing administration and other key leaders when requested.
Collaborate with CNS-Educator and Advance Practice CNS to identify practice changes that need to be integrated into professional development programs.
Support clinical nursing education contact hour program through review of learning activity application.
Leader / Change Agent / Advocate for NPD Specialty Role
Ensures that educational activities are congruent with the Valley Medical Center's Mission, Vision, Values and goals and NPD practice model throughputs.
Develops single-offering and program-level budget in conjunction with the PDE Director. Conducts cost-benefit, cost-effectiveness and return-on-investment analyses for programs supported.
Serves on Valley Medical Center committees and workgroups.
Collaborates with external agencies and organizations as needed to support VMC's professional development program goals.
Serve on Advisory Boards when applicable.
Demonstrates continuing competence in area of specialty through NPD certification maintenance, ongoing nursing professional development and performance.
Uses change management strategies and theories to drive desired outcomes.
Participates in professional nursing organizations with a focus on NPD.
Champion for Scientific Inquiry
Uses evidence-based practices in curriculum development.
Promotes the use of evidence-based practices for educational program development.
Initiates and / or participates in research projects and implement findings, when
appropriate
Partner for Practice Transitions / Mentor Role
Supports workforce planning efforts to improve established career pathways for entering the healthcare profession.
Provides educational opportunities that benefit healthcare team members at all stages of their career development.
Provide leadership and support for the new graduate nurse residency program.
Provides guidance and resources to support the professional growth of others.
Collaborates with organizational leaders to support succession planning initiatives.
