Material Scientist

Job Description

Hiring a Material Scientist for a biotech company specialized in pioneering biological and chemical detention technologies in Rancho Cordova, CA.

As a Material Scientist, you will assist in the discovery process of how to fabricate substrates. You will create and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and maintain a clean lab space.

The ideal candidate will play a critical role in designing, developing, and optimizing various components of our product in preparation to take it to market.

  • This role involves conducting complex experiments, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards
  • Play a key role in supporting research and development projects and contributing to the overall success of our product launch
  • Perform a variety of chemical analyses, experiments, and tests which includes preparing samples, operating laboratory equipment, and recording data accurately
  • Ensure that designs are optimized for manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and performance
  • Testing of new designs to validate performance, functionality, and reliability
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance product quality and manufacturing efficiency
  • Ensure all laboratory equipment is properly calibrated, maintained, and functioning
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any issues with instruments or equipment
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines
  • Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment
  • Accurately record, analyze, and interpret data
  • Monitor and verify the quality of laboratory results through rigorous testing and validation procedures

Qualifications

  • We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled in both material science and chemistry
  • Ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of hands-on laboratory experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required in Materials Science, Chemistry or related discipline; Master's or PhD preferred
  • Proficient in using laboratory equipment such as spectrophotometers, titrators, and other analytical instrumentsExpertise with Raman Spectroscopy
  • Strong knowledge of chemical safety protocols and laboratory best practices
  • Ability to analyze complex data and produce accurate, reliable results
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise reports and effectively present data to colleagues and management
  • Willingness to share knowledge and support the growth of fellow team members
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work efficiently in a fast-paced, start-up environment
