Job Description

Develops, implements and evaluates safety policies and procedures and may be involved in the compliance and ensurance of product EHS.

Provides leadership and technical expertise in the development of strategies, programs and training to ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and company standards, improve safety and reduce / eliminate EHS related business risks.

Interfaces with external EHS agencies. Partners with business / functional / EBS leaders on the development and implementation of action plans that drive closure of open issues and improvements resulting in improved safety performance and environmental controls.

Occupational Health roles that are internally-oriented medical professionals that provide for and deliver health and safety programs and services to workers, worker populations, and community groups should be assigned to this job family.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Under minimal supervision, leads the enforcement of health and safety programs at the designated site while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Recognizes, evaluates, and makes recommendations for the control of potential workplace hazards in the areas of industrial hygiene and industrial safety.
  • Prepares timely and accurate reporting of required regulatory submissions including permit reports, and OSHA logs for EH&S Leadership review and approval.
  • Provides guidance and mentorship to colleagues with less experience.
  • Drafts and revises EH&S policies and procedures in collaboration with various departments for EH&S Leadership. Implements when approved.
  • Leads, mentors, and advises site Safety Committee. Documents Safety Committee Meeting Minutes and maintains meeting records.
  • Supports the management of the environmental program including hazardous materials / waste program, wastewater permit, and stormwater program.
  • In collaboration with EH&S Leadership, ensures New Hire Safety Orientation and other safety-related training is compliant with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Receives train-the-trainer training on various environmental health and safety areas.
  • Prepares monthly EH&S Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), reports summarizing key statistics, data, and activities.
  • In collaboration with EH&S Leadership, coordinates internal audits and inspections of implemented programs within designated time frames, including but not limited to Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), equipment, Emergency Planning, Exposure Monitoring activities, Respiratory Protection, and Chemical Inventory.
  • Manages EH&S-related documents, files, and incidents / illnesses via EH&S software and SharePoint.
  • Ensures site leadership and team members are trained and knowledgeable of their responsibilities under each policy. Audits the quality, delivery, and effectiveness of all required training.
  • Responsible for ensuring thorough investigation of safety and security-related events to identify the root cause through the Problem-Solving Process (PSP) and prompt corrective action is taken, if required.
  • Provides safety support for all shifts. Responds to serious safety incidents or injuries, including accompanying injured employee(s) to clinic or hospital for diagnosis and treatment.
  • Conducts job hazard analysis, ergonomic reviews, and risk assessments to identify and minimize risks.
  • Manages safety / emergency equipment and the distribution of required personal protective equipment.
  • With minimal guidance, manages workers' compensation claims and return-to-work programs in collaboration with human resources.
  • Stays abreast of EPA, OSHA, CalOSHA, and local health and safety regulations.
  • Maintains active First Aid / CPR, OSHA 30, and Forklift Certification.
  • Utilizes continuous improvement tools through the Envista Business System (EBS) and actively participates in continuous improvement events to support business objectives.
  • Travels up to 10% to Southern California sites.
  • Performs any other projects or duties assigned by Manager.

Job Requirements : REQUIRED :

REQUIRED :

  • Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience OR High school diploma or equivalent plus a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience required.
  • Relevant experience must include ensuring OSHA / CalOSHA compliance, incident / accident root cause investigations, conducting job hazard analysis, and workers’ compensation management.
  • OSHA or Certified Safety Professional certification is required.

PREFERRED SKILLS :

  • Good presentation skills are required.
  • Ability to build and maintain good rapport and handle situations with confidence, tact, and resourcefulness required.
  • Detail-oriented and the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists required.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment required.
  • Good verbal and written communication, demonstrating proficiency with vocabulary, grammar and punctuation.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

Ability to apply concepts of basic math to daily work.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to follow instructions and guidelines set forth by Manager.
  • Ability to utilize computer for standard applications including work processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
  • Proficiency in Oracle and Microsoft Office Suite.

The total compensation package for this position may also include an annual performance bonus, medical / dental / vision benefits, 401K match, and / or other applicable compensation plans.
