Director, Simulation Center

The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing Center for Simulation & Immersive Learning is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to serve as the .

This leadership position will play a pivotal role in overseeing simulation education, operations, managing budgets and staff, collaborating with faculty, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality simulation-based education across all programs at the school.

The Director will report directly to the Associate Dean for Simulation and Immersive Learning and will work closely with faculty, staff, and external partners to uphold simulation accreditation standards in the delivery of simulation education, support of grant-funded projects, and advance the mission and strategic goals of the school.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Academic

  • Collaborate with the simulation team to partner with faculty in the integration of simulation-based education into curricula across all programs, ensuring alignment with learning objectives, best practices in simulation, and accreditation standards.
  • Oversees, coordinates, facilitates, and monitors all simulation initiatives for faculty training.
  • Continuously assesses the performance and educational content of the simulation-based programs and activities.

Administrative

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the simulation program, ensuring alignment with the mission and strategic goals of the school.
  • Supervise simulation staff, including hiring, training, performance evaluation, and professional development.
  • Maintain and update simulation policies, procedures, and protocols in accordance with best practices and accreditation requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards related to simulation education, including coordinating site visits and preparing accreditation reports.
  • Support grant-funded simulation projects by providing leadership, oversight, and administrative support as needed.
  • Collaborate with other departments and institutions within the Johns Hopkins Health System to facilitate interprofessional education and collaborative research opportunities.
  • Represent the school and the simulation program at conferences, workshops, and professional meetings, sharing expertise and best practices with the broader healthcare simulation community.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Associate Dean for Simulation and Immersive Learning to support the simulation program's overall success and advance the school's goals.

Operations

  • Oversee all aspects of simulation operations, including scheduling, maintenance of simulation equipment and facilities, and coordination of simulation sessions.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for all Standardized Patient (SP) activities.
  • Conduct vendor scans and stay informed about advancements in simulation technology, recommending investments and upgrades as appropriate.
  • Develops inventory policies to ensure levels are maintained in a cost-effective manner and develops inventory control procedures to monitor supply levels.

Fiscal

  • Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Simulation and Immersive Learning to,
  • Develop and manage the simulation program budget, including forecasting expenses, allocating resources, and monitoring financial performance.
  • Foster partnerships with external organizations, industry partners, and funding agencies to enhance simulation education initiatives and secure additional resources.
  • This is a full-time, in-person, exempt position.

Additional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of simulation pedagogy, program operations, standards of best practice and instructional techniques / technologies.
  • Knowledge and experience with curriculum design and implementation.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and external partners.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with the ability to foster a culture of respect, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Expert knowledge about and experience in simulation techniques in healthcare and academic program development.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree in education or science related field such as nursing, medicine, public health, business, or simulation-based research field (ex.

human factors, organizational psychology, health policy and management, etc.).

Ten years of simulation experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree.
  • Experience as a director of an accredited healthcare-based simulation center.
  • Experience managing budgets, supervising staff, and leading multidisciplinary teams.

Total Rewards

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins Universitys salary range for this position.

Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education / training and other qualifications.

Education and Experience Equivalency

Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines : JHU Equivalency Formula : 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.

Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education / experience required for the respective job.
