About This Job

The Office of State Parks (OSP) serves the citizens of Louisiana and visitors by preserving and interpreting natural areas of unique or exceptional scenic value, planning, developing and operating sites that provide outdoor recreation opportunities in natural surroundings, preserving and interpreting historical and scientific sites of statewide importance and administering intergovernmental programs related to outdoor recreation and trails.

The purpose of this position is to primarily perform custodial duties to help maintain cleanliness and a safe environment for the customers. This includes all rental facilities and grounds, including cabins, bathhouses, meeting rooms, group camps, trails and picnic areas. This position will also assist in the front office such as checking in guests, handling forms of payment, and assisting customers, and with general maintenance such as removing garbage from campgrounds, changing light bulbs and air filters, etc. as needed.

Minimum Qualifications : No experience or training required.

Job Duties :

• Performs custodial duties necessary to maintain clean and sanitary conditions of park facilities.
• Perform weekly work orders such as maintenance of vehicles, tractors, ATVs, etc.
• Assist in upkeep of site grounds, including the Gardens.
• Clean bathroom facilities, cabins, meeting rooms, picnic areas, splashpad, etc.
• Provides a high level of customer service and assists customers with inquiries.
• Assists with maintaining park grounds such as mowing grass, collecting litter, removing limbs and debris, trail maintenance, and emptying trash receptacles.

Position-Specific Details :

Location : Bayou Segnette State Park, in Westwego, LA

Work Schedule : State Parks are open 365 days a year. Position will work a rotating schedule of 40 hours / week, which can include holidays and / or weekends as needed, to ensure coverage at the park.

Appointment Type : Probational or Promotional.

Career Progression : This position may be filled as a Park Technician A, B, or C. As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled based on the qualifications of the selected applicant.

Travel : Position requires driving around the park as part of the daily shift. A state vehicle is available for employee use while on duty.
