Job Description
The Accounts Receivable (AR) & Collections Manager is responsible for directly overseeing all receivables and collections activities and team members to ensure the most accurate, efficient and timely collection of monies due to over twenty legal entities.
The essential functions of this position are the following :
- Manage and ensure high-quality billing, PO collection, cash collection, and cash application procedures that comply with customer requirements and the law.
- Analyze bad debt; review AR aging and make decisions on customer credit holds, collections, or determining other viable solutions
- Develop and guide a high-performing team to meet individual and company performance goals
- Develop policies and best practices to improve the quality of AR and collections processes
- Develop initiatives to reduce the Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) and monitor and report deviations
- Prepare and distribute collection reports for the Leadership Team and prepare ad hoc reporting
- Provide support for closing sales and AR monthly. Assist staff accountants with reconciliation and analysis as well as providing support for the annual financial audit and other federal, state and local regulatory requirements
- Assist sales and operations staff to meet business needs
- Perform all duties and responsibilities in a timely and efficient manner and in accordance with established company policies and procedures to achieve the overall objectives of this position
- Keep immediate manager promptly informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance
- Assist with system implementations, updates, integrations or conversions, and management initiatives.
- Exercises fiduciary responsibility with both company and customer information
- Maintain a favorable working relationship with all employees, customers, and vendors to foster and promote a collaborative working atmosphere
- Project and represent a favorable image of the company at all times
- Assume additional responsibilities and special projects as needed
Qualifications
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in business, accounting or related field required.
- 5+ years of work experience in AR or collections in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. Experience leading a large team.
- Track record of driving improvements in AR cycle time and related metrics. Deep understanding of AR processes and metrics.
- Prefer someone who has worked in a multi-entity environment and understands the complexities involved.
- System conversion experience a plus.
- Proficient technical knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Great Plains software experience preferred.
- Leadership skills that focus on integrity, positivity, and a commitment to excellence are first and foremost.
- Must maintain strict confidentiality of highly sensitive information
- The ability to give open and honest feedback professionally and non-confrontational.
- Strong analytical skills to assess problems and develop solutions
- Excellent judgement and negotiating skills
- A High degree of organization, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines and follow through.
- Ability to deal with frequent changes or unexpected events professionally and diplomatically.
- Minimal of 2 business trips per year are required.
